DENNIS R. ZASTRE

September 6, 1961- June 11, 2023

Much too soon, Dennis joined his Creator and his Dad, on June 11, 2023, in Vaughan, Ontario at the age of 61.

Born in St. Boniface, he was the second child of Meril and Fleurette (nee Houde) Zastre. The family moved to St. Norbert in 1965 and quickly made lifetime friends. After his schooling, Dennis moved to Calgary and eventually met the love of his life, Margot Williams. They married in 1991 and welcomed their son, Ty Meril, in 1994.

Dennis always cherished the time spent with his family, whether watching football or hockey games (he was a devoted HABs fan), time in his meticulous yard, a lunch downtown on a patio or watching Ty play hockey. Dennis and Margot were so looking forward to spending their retirement years travelling and making more memories.

Dennis was pre-deceased by his father Meril in 1990. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 32 years, Margot; son Ty Meril; mother and stepfather, Fleurette and Earl Tetreault; sister Lynne (Dallas Johnston) and family: Ryan (Kaya, Violet), Candace (Atlee Abey) (Aklen, Aysen, Cavley); brother Ron and niece Rachelle; as well as the Williams and Tetreault families.

Dennis and the footprint he left on our hearts will always be loved and remembered.

For those in the Winnipeg area, a celebration of Dennis’ life will be held on Saturday, August 19, at 1:00 p.m., at Canad Inn, 1824 Pembina Hwy. Bring any stories you have about Dennis and join us to celebrate the amazing person he was.

There will also be a Celebration of Life for Dennis in Toronto on Friday, September 15, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club, 141 Wilson Avenue, Toronto.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in memory of Dennis or CancerCare Manitoba Foundation in support of PROFYLE, 675 McDermot Ave., Rm 1160, in honour of our little Aysen Abey.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I was sorry to hear of Dennis's passing. Dennis was one of those unforgettable people. I haven't seen Dennis for years, since he left for Calgary, but when I look at this picture I can still hear his laugh. I also remember him being mischievous, sort of like he was always up to something. Rest in peace, Dennis. - Posted by: Kelly Wright (Family friend) on: Aug 08, 2023

  • Dear Fleurette, So sorry for the loss of your son and also the loss of your sister Monique - this is a lot to deal with, with two losses so close together. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time of loss, grief and sorrow. Anita and Curt Wold - Posted by: Anita Wold (Friend of Mother) on: Aug 05, 2023

  • Although it has been many years since I've seen Denis I remember the many events our parents attended together and let us kids run wild. We had many fun times and I remember looking up to Denis as the cool kid. He was always fun to be around and always nice even though I'm sure having the younger kids tag along was not his idea of fun. I know he will be missed and hope the memories will comfort all who knew him. - Posted by: Cindy Wright (Family friend) on: Aug 05, 2023

  • Beautiful tribute to Dennis. Our hearts go out to the whole family. He will be remembered with love and with laughter that he so readily shared with everyone. Prayers and loving thoughts, John & Carole Regnier - Posted by: John & Carole Regnier (friends) on: Aug 05, 2023
