Many years ago I met both Ernie and Nancy at a Winnipeg Miniature Show. I asked Ernie if he'd photograph my work. He agreed, and soon we became fiends, and then both dear friends over the next 30 years. Ernie always asked how I wanted my work photographed, and then he did it his way. Never was I disappointed, treasuring the time spent together more than the work itself. Ernie and I talked right up to his untimely passing. He dearly missed Nancy everyday, and now everyone who has had the good fortune to meet both Ernie and Nancy will miss them everyday. Life is just not the same without them. Rest now Ernie, you are with your Nany again. You will be greatly missed and never forgotten. God bless. I knew dear Ernie for over 45 years, meeting him when I was attending, but outside of a university function. He had been working at the WAG as their first documentary-exhibit-collections photographer, since they moved into their Memorial Blvd premises. But I knew Ernie outside of that context as well. We both enjoyed architecture (his first trainings and art, but more than that we enjoyed all arts, conversation, and a certain bon-vivant quality. Ernie was a deeply caring individual, with a lovely sense of humour, always interested in others. Surely, he will be so sadly missed. - Posted by: margo cates (friend) on: Aug 08, 2023
