TARA MELISSA DUNSMORE

May 22, 1976 - July 22, 2023

Tara Melissa Dunsmore, daughter of Larry Pitsanuk and Maria Zarrillo.

Predeceased by her father Larry, grandparents Michael and Nellie Pitsanuk, Vincenzo and Antonia Zarrillo, and Fred Dunsmore.

Tara is survived by, and lovingly missed by her mother Maria Dunsmore, stepfather John Dunsmore, siblings Andrew and Rachel and grandma Margaret Dunsmore. She was loved and will be missed by her numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and their children. Most notably her godparents, Diane Bohun and Tim Pitsanuk. Tara was an incredible older sister to Andrew and Rachel, always rooting for them. Even their existence was called by Tara, who begged her mom not to be an only child. Regardless of where she lived, she always made the effort to be at all their events. She protected them and helped steer them in the right direction. Tara loved nothing more than family gatherings; and was frequently in touch with her extended family both in Canada and Italy.

Tara graduated from College Beliveau in 1994. She completed a Creative Communications Course at The University of Winnipeg, an IT course to educate her in the world of computers, and a bartending course. She had a diverse employment history, Chuck E. Cheese, CNR, United Messenger Coop, Telephoto Technologies, short stint as a bank teller – where she was robbed twice! She worked as an EA at Winnipeg SD for several years, and finally self-employed as a property owner. We were very proud of those accomplishments, owning her own home, car and rental properties. She was a compassionate caregiver to her grandmother Nellie as well as her father during his declining health.

We will miss Tara’s infectious laughter, wicked sense of humour, culinary skills and most of all her presence in our lives. You completed us Tara, and we will miss you forever.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bruce Oake Recovery Centre, Winnipeg.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 11, 2023, at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd.

Family and friends may sign a book of condolence at www.glenlawn.ca.

  • Although it has been more than 18 years since I last saw Tara, I recall a hilarious afternoon we spent together at the Assiniboine Park Zoo, while shooting a video for a project we had been assigned. Tara had a 10,000 watt smile, a fantastic sense of humour, and was blessed with her youthful good looks. Tara was a wise soul and had life experience years beyond her age. She was an exceptional, genuine person. I offer condolence to her family and friends. - Posted by: S.M. (Classmate - Creative Communications) on: Aug 05, 2023

  • Tara, a beautiful soul and a true friend. She considered my daughters, Autumn, Ocean and Isabella as her nieces, and she was affectionately known as “Uncle Tara” by them. Over the years, she was supportive of their sports and music endeavours; always cheering them on. Tara had a light and an energy that cannot be matched: a pureness and authenticity of soul. She always brought humour into situations and we shared the deepest of deepest belly laughs together. The memes and witty messages she sent were always on par. Our adventures were top-notch, and included going backstage at Rockin’ in the Fields, night swimming at Lake of the Woods, lake-life at Victoria beach, and attending so many Moist concerts. Her audacity and humour was always pushing boundaries, so kudos to her for that. She knew how to take a joke and make one. For Halloween Tara would dress as “Slap Jack” and wear a white shirt with a Jack from a deck of cards in her pocket and ask if you wanted to play, and if you did, or even if you didn’t, you were getting slapped. She once told me at a housewarming party if I were to play any Cranberries music, she would vacate. “Zombie” by the Cranberries happened to be the next song in the playlist, and yup, she left. Her nickname was “Taragone” in that she would silently leave unexpectedly from social events. I wished she wasn’t holding true to that nickname now, but I find comfort knowing that she is not sad anymore. Love you always my dearest friend. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Jenna Baker (Friend) on: Aug 05, 2023
