DAVID BROWN
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dad, David Brown on August 7, 2023. Dad was born February 25, 1939, to James and Margaret Brown in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Tears will not hide the grief of his daughter Margaret (Doug); his son David (Rebecca); grandchildren, Melissa, Sarah, and Ainsley; Sharing in the sorrow his sister Evelyn in Carrickfergus, sister in-law Ann (Bob) Hunt in Birmingham, England, along with numerous family and friends both here and overseas. David was predeceased by his parents, sister Iris and wife Joyce.
Dad began his journey and arrived in Winnipeg in 1967 where he would gain employment at the National Railway. Shortly after in 1968, with their daughter, Mom and Dad were reunited and soon made Canada their home. After the birth of son David, Dad would go onto work at the University of Manitoba for thirty plus years in the machine shop before retiring as Foreman in 1999. Coaching soccer, managing the hockey team and his involvement with the Capitol Lodge kept Dad busy but he always found time for his passion of writing and singing. The Club Chatter for the Winnipeg Irish Association and singing with the Irish Tavern Singers was two of his greatest pleasures in life. The countless nights at Folklorama, Expo in BC to the beaches of Bermuda he said were just stepping-stones before the they would get their big break. Years later and finding a second home in Mesa, AZ Dad would continue to organize everything from shuffleboard, bingo and Happy Hours throughout the park. Old acquaintances and newfound friends Dad always had a way of breaking the ice with a wee joke or a trivia question. His love for his family is indescribable especially for his three granddaughters. Always offering advice whether they wanted it or not deep down he just wanted that extra bit of Grampa time with each of them.
The family would like to express their most profound gratitude to all nurses and doctors at Concordia Hospital/Cancer Care and all of who created warmth and love in Dad's final days. A service to honor Dad's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. West, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to CancerCare Manitoba or Transcona Memorial United Church.

I was saddened to learn of Dave's passing. He was my boss at the University. We were both immigrants from Britain and had much in common. His dry humour and wit will be missed by many I'm sure. He was certainly one of a kind. My condolances to the family. Tom Jones. - Posted by: Tom Jones (Friend and coworker) on: Oct 11, 2023

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to Dave's family. Dave's presence and humor will truly be missed at the monthly retirement breakfasts. Regretfully I will not be able to attend Dave's service as we have a prior commitment out of town. Sincerly Brian Rivers - Posted by: Brian Rivers (Work Associate) on: Aug 20, 2023
