JACOB REIMER
Peacefully and quickly, Jacob (Jake) Reimer passed away in his sleep in the early morning of August 10th. Although we are sad that he is gone, we are happy that he had a long and good life, and that he has gone into the welcoming arms of Jesus, family and friends in heaven. Even with a deteriorating body and multiple emergency visits to the hospital, Dad was always grateful for the care of the health professionals and quickly made friends with those around him.
Dad was born a Mennonite in a small town called Rosenort (now Rozivka) in Ukraine during the height of the Soviet imposed Holodomor famine. When it became too dangerous to be in Ukraine, Dad’s family fled to Germany, and ultimately to Winnipeg when the Second World War broke out. As circumstances dictated, it was necessary for Dad, as the only son, to start working as a teenager to support the family. His work ethic and focus on excellence in all that he did enabled him to learn the tool and die trade, quickly progress to become Manager of all Manufacturing, and have a satisfying 40 year career at Bristol Aerospace.
Family was so important to Dad. He married the love of his life, Irene, in 1955 and enjoyed almost 50 years with her before her passing in 2004. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his three children, making sure that we got the formal education he never had, giving us the memories of many camping trips across Canada and the US, and ensuring that we developed a strong Christian faith and values. His world couldn’t have gotten better with the arrival of his precious grandchildren. Dad loved his cottage at Falcon Lake and his winter trips to Palm Springs. Always the gracious host, he made many lasting friendships with his time at these places.
Jake is survived by his children, Eleanor, Robert (Alison Thiessen), and Harold (Natalie) of Oakville, ON; and his grandchildren Madison, Dasha and Vanya. He leaves to mourn his sister, Tina Unger, sisters-in-law Erna Martens and Magdalene Martens (Edmonton, AB), and many nieces, nephews and their families. Jake was predeceased by his parents (Jacob and Sara Reimer), wife Irene (nee Martens), sister Sadie Esau, and grandson Harrison Reimer.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, August 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church, 1771 Pembina Hwy. Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 17, at Friends Funeral Service, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friends so wishing may make a donation in Jacob’s memory to CancerCare Manitoba or Mennonite Central Committee Manitoba. Share a memory on Jacob’s memory wall and obtain a livestream link for the funeral service at www.friendsfs.ca. Funeral arrangements by Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main St, Winnipeg, MB.

Our heartfelt condolences to Eleanor, Robert, Alison, Dasha & Vanya, Harold, Natalie & Madison. There was always a sparkle in Uncle Jake’s eye when he spoke of you all & I will fondly remember many cherished family gatherings together. Often, Uncle Jake would send Scott home with his famously delicious chicken noodle soup! My husband and I met Jake about 9 years ago while we were vacationing and staying in the same complex in Palm Springs. From the moment we met Jake we struck up a friendship. He was a very kind, generous and fun person to be around. After just a short while, we found out he worked at Bristol Aerospace, where my dad also worked for 30 years. He had lots of stories to tell, which were very interesting about me dad. Jake and my husband would play cribbage down by the pool everyday which they looked forward to. We shared many dinners together, potlucks around the pool and outings. We looked forward to the next winter where we would all meet up again. We were all family in PS. Eleanor and family, I am sending my heartfelt sympathy to you all. - Posted by: Debbie Aitkenhead (Friend) on: Aug 15, 2023

I had the good fortune to meet Jake and Eleanor during winter trips to Palm Springs. It was a joy to be with Jake. He would pick lemons and I would bake a lemon meringue pie and share it with him. I will miss my friend Jake. This world was a better place because Jake lived here. RIP. - Posted by: Ed Beitel (Friend) on: Aug 15, 2023

Though Jake worked in Building 2 and I worked in the T & D Lab in Building 1, we somehow met....perhaps it was my involvement with the chemical descaling process in his building, but we seemed to hit it off right away. Over the years, I appreciated his friendship, and his engaging personality was a pleasure to experience. It's hard to imagine how much those close to him will miss him, but to all of you, may you be comforted by the treasure trove of memories created with him over his long life. - Posted by: Gord Richardson (Fellow Bristol employee) on: Aug 12, 2023
