CAROL UNRUH

1946 - 2023

Carol died quietly after a long illness on August 14, 2023, at St. Boniface Hospital. In spite of health challenges over the years, she never allowed her illness to define who she was, but lived her life with resilience and a smile.

Carol was born to Margaret and Jack James of Burlington, ON, along with her twin sister Connie (Mike) from Barrie, ON. Special to her were her nieces, Pamela (Marc) and Shauna. Great-nephews, Noah, Mathieu, and Ben brought her no end of delight. After marriage Hugo’s children, Nick, Dan (Meryl) Mark, grandkids, Brendan (Larissa) and Matthew, and Lynn (Kerry), grandkids, Elis and Emma provided Carol with a new family.

Carol was a sensitive, strong, and deeply loving person. Those who knew her were touched by her compassion, sense of humour, and humility. She brought these qualities into her life as teacher, minister of the Gospel, friend, and soul-mate for Hugo.

Carol was a woman of faith who trusted fully that “in life, in death, in life beyond death God is with us. We are not alone”.

Life will not be the same without Carol. Her unconditional and unwavering love enriched not only Hugo’s life, her family’s, but also special friend Belinda Lathlin, Hugo’s sister Maggie and the people in the congregations she served. There will be tears, …tears from the memories and emptiness, tears from the gratitude and love. Today we give thanks to God for her life!

Service for Carol will take place at McClure United Church, 533 Greenwood place on Thursday, September 7 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Church Cemetery, St. Elizabeth, MB after the service.

I. remember her ready smile . her ability to enjoy life '. and her dedication to ministry I returned home to Nova Scotia after my husband died in Winnipeg ..but the time and distance did not take away my memories of those who had enriched my life with their love and witness to Christ.
