ROSE ELIZABETH BAZYLEWSKI

(nee SHYMKO)


Rose Elizabeth Bazylewski peacefully passed at the age of 101 on Thursday,  August 24, 2023, at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg (Personal Care Home).



She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Angus Shymko, husband William, sister Edna, brother Ernie, and sister-in-law Cathy, daughter-in-law Megan, and stepgrandson Christian.  She will be greatly missed by her sons, William (Myrna), Patrick (Susan), Robert (Debbie), and Gerald (Deb).  She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.



She was born May 7, 1922, and raised on the family farm in the Shortdale area.  This is where she met and married William. They left the farm and lived in Red Pass Junction, BC, Drumheller, AB, Thunder Bay, ON, and settled in Flin Flon, MB (where she raised her children and lived the majority of her life).  In Flin Flon, MB she worked many years at Johnny's Confectionery. After William passed, she moved to Winnipeg, MB and was employed as the housekeeper at McMillan House, she also formed many close friendships with the priests who lived there over the years.



The Catholic church played an important role in her life. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League and she convened the annual church bazaar many times. In 1999 she was made an honorary Oblate father.



Her funeral will be at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave., Winnipeg, MB on Saturday,  September 9, 2023.  Condolences will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with the service at 11:00 a.m. and reception to follow.

  • My Sincere condolences to the family. Rose was a very special person and I always enjoyed spending time with her, which wasn’t often enough, due to the distance we lived from each other. So grateful for live streaming that I was able to participate in her funeral from Thunder Bay. May we all cherish the good memories of her.
