ELVIN FRANKLIN ANDERSON

As the dusk of yet another beautiful prairie sunset began to form Elvin “Andy” Franklin Anderson of Winnipeg, RCMP Sergeant retired and previous owner of Robins Donuts, passed quietly away from complications of a short illness on August 26, 2023, at the age of 90. He was surrounded by the love of family.

Andy is remembered as a gentle giant (at 6'2" and size 15 shoes), a fair, kind, loyal, and faithful man, who had a twinkle in his beautiful blue eyes when teasing or telling a joke. Born in Revelstoke, Dad and Papa received his Long Service Medal with the RCMP having served in Ottawa and numerous places in Manitoba, where he fell in love with a prairie maiden, a prairie sunrise, and a prairie sunset.

Andy and the love of his life Sonja (Horn) celebrated 65 years of marriage June 7 with family, shortly before he contracted COVID. Andy is dearly loved and will be deeply missed by daughters, Rev. Terri-Ann Mattiasson of Chesley, Ontario, Dr. Thora Anderson and husband Reed Soderstrom Esq. of Minot, North Dakota, and son Lars Anderson and wife Sharon (Lambkin) Anderson of Winnipeg. Papa is remembered by his grandchildren, Geoff and wife Danielle (Perry) Lambkin, Opal Anderson, and husband Jason Sweet, Alyssa Lambkin-Anderson and Patrick Anderson, Aretha Soderstrom and fiancé Dan Horne, and Austin and Margaret Soderstrom. Andy leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Addison, Kadence, Kaylee, and Indiana as well as sister-in-law Glennys Horn. Elvin will be missed by staff and residents of Deer Lodge Centre as well as numerous friends, colleagues, customers, cousins, nieces, and nephews across Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden.

Andy was predeceased by his parents, Karl Oskar and Annie Helen Anderson, brother Bert and wife Veronica Anderson, infant brother Melvin, sisters-in-law, Anna and husband Tony Bloxham and Ruth Horn, brothers-in-law, Hank Horn, Kurt and wife Jacquie Horn, Del and wife Kathy Horn, and Bill Masson.

Thank you to the compassionate staff of Deer Lodge Centre, as well as to Pastor Bjoern Meinhardt and Spiritual Caregiver Ken Quiring. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, (E-transfers can be sent to giving@stpeterslutheran.ca) or Deer Lodge Foundation,

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • So sorry for the family's loss. Andy was a good friend to the Stewart's. I will always remember our lunch at Sackville with Andy and Sonja. Andy showed me how to hide olive pits so people could not tell how many you ate! He was a great Dad and friend. We are so lucky to have known him.
