HELEN BERGEN

November 15, 1939 – August 30, 2023

Helen Bergen died peacefully at Bethania PCH on August 30, 2023 with family by her side.

Helen was born to John and Maria Fast on November 15, 1939, in Boissevain. She attended MCI and Normal School before becoming a teacher. Helen later worked at the University of Winnipeg and volunteered at MCC’s thrift store and Ten Thousand Villages. In 1960 Helen married Hugo Hildebrand. They attended Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church and raised four children: Rick, Mandy, Marla, and Melanie. Sadly, Hugo passed away in 1983. Helen was actively involved with church and family.

In 1999 Helen married Ben Bergen. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with their blended family before Ben passed in 2014. In her later years, Helen lived with the challenge of dementia.

The funeral for Helen will be held Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church at 11:00 a.m. with a light lunch to follow. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Bethania.

In memory of Helen, donations can be made to Bethania PCH or MCC.
