DIANE ELIZABETH MARIE ROBERTS

(JOWETT)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Diane Roberts on August 27, 2023, at Grace General Hospital, with family at her side.

Diane is survived by her husband Frank; son David Roberts and daughter Anne Marie Roberts (Brett); brothers, Brian Jowett (Cheryl), Gordon Jowett (Kathy) and Barry Jowett; aunt Marcia Jowett; nieces and nephews, Lisa Jowett, Michelle Jowett, Lee Jowett, Michael Jowett (Aynsley); many cousins including Greg Jowett (Joy), Bruce Jowett (Cathy), Barbara Keith (Doug), Valerie Jowett (Pat), Douglas Jowett (Denise), Nicole Jowett-Schnell (Justin); Louise Letkeman (Jake), Bryanne Lavoie (Cory); Tami Campbell (Conan); Donna Spence.

Diane spent her early childhood on Moore Avenue, then Jubilee Avenue in Winnipeg, where she attended Lord Roberts Elementary School and Churchill High School going on to work at Eaton’s on Portage Avenue.

In 1972 she married Frank, her husband of 51 years. Together, they enjoyed choral singing, summers at the lake, and family ski trips. They resided in St. James where Diane found joy in gardening and leisurely walks around Bruce Park and Assiniboine Park, preferably in the company of family, friends, and a dog or two.

Diane cherished spending time with her children and extended family, maintaining strong connections and reminiscing together. She enjoyed travel and loved watching her classic movies from the 1940s and 1950s. Diane was an exceptional cook and baker, using her culinary gifts to express her love for others.

Throughout the years she attended church at St. James Anglican, St. Andrews Anglican and Elim Chapel. Diane had a deep faith and loved her time with bible study friends, learning and praying.

Summers at the lake held a special place in her heart. She enjoyed kayaking, tending to flowers and observing the antics of wildlife. Diane was swimming, walking in the sunshine and riding in the boat just days before her passing.

Services will be held at Elim Chapel, 546 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Parking is in the rear. Please enter through the rear doors. Interment will follow at St James Anglican Cemetery, 525 Tylehurst Street.

  • Diane was such a delightful and giving person and I am grateful to have had the privilege of knowing her. She used her love of baking to bring such joy to so many people. When I had back surgery in November 1996 and couldn’t go to Edmonton to celebrate Christmas with my family, Diane and Frank invited my mother and I to their home for Christmas dinner. We were made to feel so welcomed and appreciated them opening their home to us. Diane was a great prayer warrior and always made you feel loved. I will greatly miss her smile and her saying to me, “I’ve been praying for you”. Frank, David, Anne and family, please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. Diane was truly a bright star. - Posted by: Pat Parish (Friend) on: Sep 02, 2023

  • Our family met at Elim Chapel in the late 1980's. Our son, Jeffery was born 7 weeks early and was in NICU for his first year. Diane was part of the Tuesday morning women's bible study who prayed regularly for our boy. Many years later she met our son and said "Is this the little baby that we were praying for?" This group was my support of Mom'/women who understood how hard it was for us and to keep rooting for us. Diane was so kind and warm! Just this past week we were passing your street in St James and I thoutht of your family not knowing that Your Mum/wife was now in glory! We offer our sincere condolences to your family. Sorry for your loss. - Posted by: John and Dorothy Wiens (former parishioner at Elim Chapel) on: Sep 02, 2023

  • We have been saddened to learn of Diane's passing. Although we didn't see each other frequently in recent years, whenever we did Diane always engaged in enjoyable conversations. We regret we are not able to be in attendance at Diane's service on Tuesday, but we extend to Frank and all the family our deepest condolences in your time of loss and sorrow. May peace be with you at this difficult time. - Posted by: Jae & Rhoda (neighbours) on: Sep 02, 2023
