FLORENCE GREGG
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Florence Gregg (nee Tataryn), on August 30, 2023, at Seven Oaks General Hospital.
Florence was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Doris Tataryn (Ewanko), stepfather Danylo Ewanko, husband Joe, sister Gladys Morris, stepsister Anne Petriw, and stepbrother Father Edward Evanko.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Stephen (Sabine) and Teresa (Jerry), six grandchildren, Ryan (Lain), Courtney (Derek), Mackenzie (Marcus), Brendan, Lauren (Aaron), and Jenna (Charles), as well as four great-grandchildren, Owen, Carter, Skyler, and Catherine.
She is also survived by her stepsister, Jennie (Peter) Prystupa, sisters-in-law, Pauline Couch and Helen Sichewski, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Florence was born on July 30, 1934, in Winnipeg. After the death of her father at an early age, she worked with her sister to help their mother run the family grocery store. As a young adult, she enjoyed taking the train with friends to Winnipeg Beach, where she met her husband, Joe, on July 21, 1956. Joe knew Florence was the one and, not wasting any time, they were married on June 21, 1958 at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, where they faithfully attended for their whole married life.
Florence spent much of her adult life perfecting the art of homemaking. With unmatched hospitality and generosity, she frequently prepared delicious homemade meals for large groups of people, always complete with sweet treats for dessert. Ever the hostess, Florence took every opportunity to invite friends and family for dinner, to watch the football game, or to play cards.
She joyfully welcomed everyone into her home, taking a genuine interest in each person’s life and making everyone feel at home.
Florence also gave her time freely. She volunteered making perogies at church, organizing bus trips to the casino, and canvassing for the Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation. Volunteering at the hospital eventually led to Florence being offered a part time job in the Registration office, where she worked for several years. Her generosity of time was perhaps most evident with her grandchildren. From afternoons spent babysitting to weekend sleepovers, from evenings at the hockey rink to girls’ shopping trips in Fargo, Florence never passed up an opportunity to spend time with her grandkids.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main Street, with Father Isidore Dziadyk officiating. A private interment will follow at a later date. For those wishing to attend from afar, the funeral will be live-streamed at: www.facebook.com/korbanchapel.
The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr Collister, Rob Plaetinck and the staff at
Seven Oaks General Hospital for their kindness and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Florence was like a big sister to Elsie, who was 4 years younger and her second cousin, and would come to the (Wasyl) Tataryn farm in Howden and toboggan almost every weekend in the winter. She was a quiet person, shy, but nothing got past her, she giggled a lot, and a great tobogganing pal. - Posted by: Elsie Orr (Cousin) on: Sep 08, 2023
