Peacefully, on Friday, September 1, 2023, at the Tudor Personal Care Home, Selkirk, Lilly Cawson, aged 102 years of Selkirk, MB passed away.
She was predeceased by her husband Frank, brother and sister-in-law George and Margaret Herde, brother-in-law Joe Mitru; sister-in-law Muriel (Don) Court, sister-in-law Mary (Leverne) Williams and brother-in-law Charlie (Florence) Cawson.
She is survived by her sister Evelyn Mitru and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
Lilly was born in Switzerland and the following year her parents immigrated to Canada and settled on a farm in Saskatchewan. It was under the pioneering conditions of those days that her love of all things in nature developed and grew.
In 1943, she enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corp (CWACS) Signals Division in Regina and served overseas in England until 1946.
In 1950, Lilly owned a Hair Salon in Moosomin, SK until she married Frank and then came to Winnipeg and Selkirk in 1961.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Clement’s Church.
We would like to thank all the friends and family that visited Lilly over the years. We would like to extend a huge thank you to Cathy and Helmuth Janke and their families, also Derek and Brenda Cawson and their families for their love and continued support. Also thank you to the Tudor House staff.
