GEORGE SPENCER CADZOW

September 5, 1929 - August 17, 2023

George peacefully passed away at the Grace Hospital at the age of 93.

He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his son Brian, as well as his sister Pat, son-in-law Brian, granddaughter Ashley (Arash), grandson Kyle (Aida), and great-grandsons, Kaveh and Kian. Also left to cherish his memory are his nephews, Robin (Annette) and Darren (Dayna), his nieces, Jaye (Rick) and Kerri (Paul), his great-nephews, Peyton and Carson, and many cousins.



George was predeceased by his parents, Christopher Sr. and Elizabeth, his wife Eileen (Bonnie) (nee Boniface), his daughter Karen, and his brother Chris.



George was born and raised in the North End of Winnipeg. He attended Ralph Brown School, Machray School, and St. John’s Tech. After graduating, he entered the workforce, his first job being with M.T.S. in 1947. From 1948 to 1950, he worked for Willson Stationery. Then from 1950 to 1958, he was employed with C.P.R. Finally, from 1958 until his retirement at the end of 1991, George worked for Crane Supply as a salesmen throughout Manitoba and N.W. Ontario.



George met his wife, Bonnie, while they were both employed at Willson Stationery. They were happily married on July 21, 1951. They were married for 59 years until Bonnie’s passing in 2011.



George had many interests in his lifetime, but for those who knew him well, hockey was one of his greatest passions. He loved playing the game in his youth, and he would later attend the games of his son, grandson, and great-nephews in support of their teams. In the late 1970s, he was manager of the Midland Flyers team, and in time, he was appointed Registrar of the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League. The MMJHL also honoured him as a lifetime member of the league. While hockey was a significant part of George’s life, so too was the game of soccer; he played the game as a youngster into his early adult years. He played goalie for the Luxton Royals F.C. George also enjoyed lake life, and as a young adult, he was known to hop on the “Moonlight Express” to Winnipeg Beach with his brother, Chris, on the weekends. With his family, George made summer trips to Grand Beach where they rented many a cabin to stay in. Also, who could forget Lanky’s? One of his most memorable trips was his journey with his wife to Hawaii. While working for Crane, he had the opportunity to travel to several locations across Canada. He always spoke fondly of his time in northern Manitoba and N.W. Ontario, as he was able to explore the mines and partake in fishing expeditions with his colleagues. Above all else, George loved spending time with his family. It was also his great pleasure to spend time with his best friends affectionately known as “The Gang”.



Respecting George’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.

It is the family’s request that anyone wishing to express their sympathy please do so by donating to a charity of their choosing. Flowers are gratefully declined.

And for keeping our spirits high.

But most importantly for us, your family

For your love, warmth, and generosity.
