Allen Lesley Shaver, born June 25, 1929, passed away in Brandon with his daughters at his side on Friday, September 1, 2023, at the age of 94. Allen is survived by his children Terry (Mary), Dan, Tim (Laura), Nancy (Robin) Lytle, Dave (Wendy), Christine (Colin) Crellin; daughter-in-law Suzette Shaver; 19 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings George, Joanne, Ronald, Shirley; his wife Ruth and children Norine and Darrel.
He was a wonderful husband and devoted father to his eight children. Allen worked for Brooks Equipment before starting his own business. He was a mechanic, salesman, inventor and always had to have a project to work on into his late eighties. He was always fixing things, whether for himself or others, and he taught his children as many of his repair skills as they would let him.
Allen and Ruth were married for 66 years, Ruth passed away in 2018. They met while volunteering to fill sandbags during the great flood of Winnipeg in the spring of 1950 and were married in June 1952. The way they met helping others was typical of their life together – always helping where they could.
Allen was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Allen and Ruth were sealed as eternal companions in the Idaho Falls Temple. Allen served in many capacities with the church and together with his wife they served several missions including four years in the Regina Temple, always going where and when asked.
We would like to thank the staff of Rideau Park Personal Care Home for their kind and compassionate care during the time he spent there.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to "Rideau Park Personal Care Home", 525 Victoria Ave East, Brandon, MB R7A 6S9.
A memorial service will be held on October 6 at 2:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 700 London Ave, Winnipeg.
