It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marion Catherine Swainson (nee Olson) in Ottawa on September 2, 2023.
Marion was born on November 23, 1931, in Winnipeg, Manitoba and married the love of her life, Arthur Kristjan Swainson, in 1955. They raised three daughters together as they moved around Canada and Europe as a result of Art’s career as a military lawyer. She embraced the adventure of the regular postings of military life — living in Winnipeg (many times), Toronto, Montreal, Metz (France), Lahr (Germany), North Bay and Ottawa.
Marion was a thoughtful and caring person, known for her sense of humour and infectious laugh, and for giving generously of herself to friends and family. She loved baking, sewing, travelling, playing cards, and entertaining. For many years, Marion was very active in her church — the Protestant Chapel at CFB Uplands.
Marion was predeceased by her husband and her parents, William, and Catherine Olson. She is survived by her daughters; Cathy (Richard), Nancy (Tom) and Signe (John); and five grandchildren Emma (Evan), Andrew (Mélissa), Paul, Amy, and Steven. Marion’s family is grateful for the loving support of caregiver Terry Horsley over the past 15 years and the care provided for over 10 years by the Kentwood team at the Ottawa Glebe Centre. Special thanks to Dr. Levine and all the staff who cared for her most recently.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Chapel on the Uplands Canadian Forces Base (337 Breadner Boulevard) in Ottawa on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
