Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNANCY MAY WHEATLEY
Peacefully at the age of 72, surrounded by family at HSC, Mom danced off to an everlasting sleep after a six month battle with Glioblastoma.
Mom will be lovingly remembered by her husband Paul; her children, Matthew (Rachel), Peter (Ashleigh), William (Stephanie); grandchildren, Alice, Zach, Clara, Max, James, Johnathan, and baby on the way; sister Joy (Al) and brother Ron (Sue). Mom was predeceased by her sister Sheila and brother James.
Mom and dad grew up in Toronto, where at the ages of 16 they fell in love while working summer jobs at The Stoodleigh restaurant. The two of them became inseparable sharing 55 wonderful years together, highlighted by their recent 50th wedding anniversary.
Mom was one of three graduating women from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Toronto in 1973. Applying her Industrial Engineering knowledge, she held prominent leadership roles at General Electric and Levi’s. While taking time to raise her three boys, she was an active member of the community as a School Trustee for 16 years in Pembina Trails. She would later earn her Master of Education and complete her accomplished career as the Dean of Construction and Engineering Technologies at Red River College. Throughout her life, Mom had a charitable heart, be it canvassing for diabetes, helping with children’s cancer or serving as a Board member for Volunteer Manitoba.
Although Mom loved to travel, and took many cruises around the world, she relished time with family and friends at the Victoria Beach cottages. Mom had a passion for dance over the years, whether it be disco, Zumba, ballroom or rockin’ to the oldies at the Forever Young Club. Mom always looked forward to gathering with neighbours to play bridge and discuss books. Over the years, mom took great pleasure in attending her sons hockey games, hosting holiday gatherings and dancing in her pool.
A warm thank you to HSC and CancerCare Manitoba; Doctors, Nurses and staff for all their caring and compassion during these last few months.
In accordance with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and her life was celebrated as part of her 50th Wedding anniversary.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Special Olympics Manitoba or Candlelighters Childhood Cancer.

Nancy and I worked together for several years at Red River. We shared the same Dean’s office area. She was always kind, thoughtful, supportive and generally a very warm and giving person. She took a creative approach to her work, and took on every challenge with a determination to make it a win-win solution. My condolences to Paul and family. - Posted by: Louise Gordon (Colleague ) on: Sep 09, 2023
