Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHAUN ALAN BURKY
It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Shaun on Sunday, September 3, at the age of 49, at St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver.
Shaun leaves to mourn his father Terry, stepmother Lilly, sister Crystal, stepbrothers, Steve and Evan (Marie-Adèle), along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the Vancouver paramedics as well as St. Paul's Hospital for their loving, compassionate care.
Cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
Jesus Christ compared death to sleep (John 11: 11-14). We look forward to the day when He will awaken all our dear loved ones onto a paradise earth where there will be no more sickness or death. (John 5: 28-29, Acts 24: 15; Revelation 21: 3-4).

I met Shaun in Vancouver in the late '90s through my boyfriend at the time, and we eventually became roommates. We shared countless fun moments and had some deep, meaningful conversations. Shaun had a knack for making people laugh and enjoyed a good laugh himself. I feel fortunate to have called him a friend. When I moved to Kelowna in 2003, he visited me once. We were supposed to go to Big White, but I accidentally burned my face with too much retinol! Instead, he stayed back and kept me company while I slathered my face with Aquaphor all weekend, jokingly calling me a "grease monkey." He had a great sense of humor and could do fantastic impressions, giving me one of the best belly laughs I’ve had in a long time. As life got busier for me as a single parent, we lost touch, especially after he returned to Vancouver. Tonight, a Facebook memory from 17 years ago reminded me of him, and I just learned of his passing. I want to extend my deepest condolences to his family. May he rest in the loving arms of our Lord Jesus, who died for our sins. Until we meet again, my friend. - Posted by: Tara (Friend) on: Jan 19, 2026

Shaun and I were good friends. We met on a job site the summer of 1996 just after my older sister had died in a car crash. We had a lot of good times and travelled out to BC and he ended up staying out there. I'm so saddened to hear of this loss. - Posted by: Stephen Graham (friend) on: Feb 24, 2025

I remember Shaun as a kind, intelligently dry wit guy. We met at Acadia. And would joke around in hallways or chat in class throughout school. He had an apt for fashion. And I think we even traded Edwin jeans once. I recall running into him here and there after high school but feel like a decade since i physically heard his voice or saw his handsome face. My heart aches for your loss. And his passing. Beautiful Glory be yours Shaun! Peace Love n Light - Posted by: Elizabeth Masi (Friend ) on: Sep 16, 2023
