DOUGLAS CLIFFORD OVERTON

Doug Overton passed away at home on September 13, 2023, at the age of 78.

Doug is survived by his wife Marna; his children, Doug Jr, Kim, Cathy and Mike and grandchildren, Andrew and Mackenzie.

Doug was born in London, Ontario on December 8, 1944, and moved to Winnipeg, where he grew up and he and Marna raised their family. His work as a professional NHL scout moved him and Marna to the United States in the early 90s. In 1999, he achieved his life-long goal and dream of winning the Stanley Cup with the Dallas Stars. Doug was an avid sports fan, in particular watching his family compete. He could often be seen high in the rafters at many hockey arenas and curling events.

In accordance with Doug's wishes no formal service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doug's memory to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

  • Marna & family so sorry for your loss. It came as quite a shock as we had talked about a month ago. I knew Doug from pee wee hockey when we around 10 years old. We hung out a lot over the ensuing years up until he went away to play hockey and married Marna. We had a lot of good times and laughs during our teenage years. A number of years later we curled together for a year before Doug & Marna moved to the U.S. We were born 3 days apart so that was a bond where one or the other would call to wish the other happy birthday & discuss how things were going with family etc.. I am really going to miss those calls. Terry & Rose. - Posted by: Terry & Rose McNeill (Friends) on: Sep 16, 2023
