Marcelline passed away peacefully on September 15, 2023 at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 65 years.
She is survived by her loving husband Gene Shalai; daughter Natalie; grandchildren, Johnny and Jemma; sister Helen; auntie Camille; uncle Franz; niece Pamela; nephews, Brent and Corey; brother-in-law Jimm and sister-in-law Diane.
Marcelline was predeceased by her parents, Louis Charney and Marcelline Lecuyer; foster father Alfred Maynard and uncle Joe.
The family thanks the Health Sciences ICU and Dialysis Ward and Joel Osten.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 20 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with Rev. Scott MacAuley presiding. Interment to follow in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, 455 Lagimodiere Boulevard.

My cousin and I met as adults in Kenora, Ontario at the residence of my Uncle Louis, immediately following his death. We shared our life stories and developed a close bond. Over the years, Marcie, as I called her, corresponded with me, she from St. Laurent, I from Toronto. Her letters were long and detailed, often including snippets related to her love of her pets. Occasionally, we spoke by phone, usually at great length. I have retained the many photos that she shared with me over the years. We lost touch around 2013 when I became a care giver for my husband. Unaware of her struggles with her health, I am saddened that I was not able to lend support to her during her illness.
