DENISE WELFLEY

On September 14, 2023 after a brief illness, Denise Cecile Welfley (nee Audet) passed away at the age of 92.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael (Yolanda) and John, three grandchildren, Sam, Veronika and Stephen as well as nieces, Marilyn, Donna and Joanne, and nephew David. She was predeceased by her parents, Ed and Mary Audet, her husband Buck and sister Dorothee and brother-in-law Mark.

Denise was born in Winnipeg on July 23, 1931 and spent her entire life in the city she loved. She married Buck Welfley in 1958 and enjoyed 50 years together before his passing in 2008. Denise was firmly guided by her lifelong Catholic faith and enjoyed many activities through her parishes, including Pope John XXIII in St. James and later Holy Cross in St. Boniface. She was a proud longtime member of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada. In later years, Buck and Denise enjoyed travels to Florida and all over Canada, with trips to her parents’ birthplace in Gaspe and the Maritimes being highlights. Denise and Buck also greatly enjoyed a rich social life with various square and round dancing groups through the years. She was a loving mother and grandmother and generous to many, though tempered with a thriftiness earned through growing up in Depression-era Winnipeg. She will be greatly missed.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Villa Aulneau, Misericordia Health Centre and Tuxedo Villa for their care and support in the past six months.

A memorial service was held at Green Acres Funeral Home, Highway 1 East at Navin Road, Winnipeg on Friday, September, 22, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.

If desired, donations may be made in Denise’s memory to a charity of choice.
