JOYCE DOHERTY

(nee HARVEY)

July 27, 1938 - September 18, 2023

It is with sad hearts but wonderful memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Joyce, on September 18, 2023 at the St.Boniface Hospital.

Joyce is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Shannon (Randy) Bakke, Heather Doherty (Dave), and Pam (Mike) Namaka; grandchildren, Grant and Caitlin Bakke; Madison and Alyssa Koniuk; Zachary, Connor and Laine Kolton; Brock, Treye, and Eden Namaka; sister Sylvia (Ian) McDonald and nieces and nephews.

Joyce was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Sam, sister Lynn Sellen and her parents.

Joyce grew up in Oakbank and then pursued a career in nursing at the Winnipeg General Hospital and was so proud to be a graduate of the class of 1960 "A". The special friendships that she had with her classmates were treasured throughout her life.

Joyce loved a good game of cards, especially cribbage. She loved curling and organized the Rossmere Junior Curling league for many years. Late in life, golf became her sport of choice. Mom enjoyed knitting, sewing, travelling, baking and was famous for her "Grandma Chocolate Chip Cookies". Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. As a grandmother she took pride in all of her grandchildren’s activities.

Joyce had an ability to make everyone she met feel at ease and welcome. Mom was an inspiration to all as she bravely fought her cancer battle with grace, dignity and poise. Special thanks to the many people who supported Joyce during this 11 year journey.

A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Oakbank United Church. For those that wish to join virtually, please go to the photos/video tab on Joyce’s memorial page at seasonsfunerals.ca

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Myeloma Canada.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I met Joyce when she was pregnant with Pam at Rossmere Curling Club and we’ve remained close friends since then. She was always an inspiration to me, looking on the bright side of things and remained positive. I remember the day when she told me she was ill, taking it in stride and she remained strong throughout. I enjoyed curling, golfing and just visiting. Since I moved away I always made a point of getting together at her house, admiring her lovely flowers and jealous of her huge tomato plants. I’m so glad she was in my life, there are not too friends like her. She was a gem. Rest in peace, my friend. I will miss you.
