HELEN DOERKSEN

(DYCK)

April 23, 1922 – October 7, 2023

It is with celebration and sorrow that we mourn the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the age of 101. She died peacefully in her sleep at Pembina Place. Her health had declined recently, so we are grateful to God for taking her home.

Helen leaves to mourn her family, Hildi Banting, of Victoria, B.C., Karin (Richard) Klassen of Winnipeg, and Gerry (Lisa) Doerksen of Toronto, ON.; grandchildren: Evan Klassen with friend Bert Keeper, and Deanna (Drayton) Cook; great-grandchildren: Annika and Andrew Cook whom she loved dearly. Helen was predeceased by her parents, siblings, and her son-in-law, David Banting.

Helen was an inspiration to many. She loved her Lord and Saviour and participated actively in her local church. Her faith was strong, grounded in numerous Bible verses that were often memorized. Her source of strength throughout her life came from Isaiah 41:10.

Interment will be at La Salle Mennonite Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023, followed by Helen’s Celebration of Life, at 1:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg. The service will be live streamed by Friends Funeral Service and available at https://fweb.tv/109935

Donations in memory of Helen Doerksen may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee Manitoba, 100 – 140 Bannatyne Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 3C5.

  • It was a privilege to be a part of Helen's celebration of life, albeit online. Her life of faith, hard work, giving and graceful acceptance is inspirational and it is very evident that she leaves a legacy of love in her wonderful family and others whose lives she has touched. Love and condolences to Hildi and family. - Posted by: Debra Reynolds Banting (Hildi's sister-in-law) on: Oct 14, 2023

  • Mrs Doerksen was a lovely lady dedicated to her faith in Christ. She was an inspiration to me with every visit. We sang many hymns, prayed, read , talked about her special memories. Our visits left a lasting impression I will forever cherish. My prayers for her family as you continue living her Legacy! She now gets to SEE Jesus and the flowers for real! ❤️🙏 - Posted by: Darla Gerbrandt (Friend , Caregiver) on: Oct 12, 2023

  • My sincere sympathy on the loss of your mother. Grateful that her suffering is over! Aunt Helen was my favorite and also my last aunt. Although we visited infrequently, I was always touched by her warmth, caring and zest for life. Her photo ornament will hang on my Christmas tree again this year. - Posted by: Edith Dahl (Niece) on: Oct 11, 2023

  • Aunt Helen was certainly an inspiration for me. Her warmth and smile made you feel uplifted. It felt good to be around her. I am sorry for her passing as the world has one less angel on it. But great for Heaven. My thoughts are with you the family. ❤️❤️ - Posted by: Chrisanna Doerksen (Aunt by marriage ) on: Oct 11, 2023
