JAKOB FROESE

November 27, 1938 – October 12, 2023

It is with a mixture of sadness and joy that we announce the passing of Jakob aged 85 years, beloved father, and grandfather, who went to be with the Lord on October 12, 2023. Jake’s health had been steadily declining for the past five years.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his children, Richard (Tess) and Linda, and three grandsons, Marc, Tyler, and Ryan. Jakob is also survived by two brothers, Hans (Barb), Willy (Martha) and four sisters, Katharina Bock (Bernie), Anne Ott (Mel), Alice Macdonald and Marichen Johnston (Joe) and many nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Helene Froese, parents Peter Isaak Froese and Katarina Penner Froese and two sisters, Margaret Reimer and Alvira Friesen.

Jakob was a very skilled woodworker and general handyman. He was always available to assist others whenever needed. Jakob was also an active member of North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church until his health issues arose.

We are very grateful for the exceptional care he was given in Donwood Manor during his last years.

The Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road, Winnipeg, with viewing prior to the service. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Donwood Foundation - Donwoodmanor.org

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I will always have fond memories of Jake as he and Helen were so welcoming and kind and made me feel special and always at home. I remember going on a road trip with Jake and Helen and Linda to Expo 86 in Vancouver in his cool vintage blue car! Jake and I shared some giggles over the odd snack food concoctions we came up with and enjoyed together! Being around Jake always made me smile! Although he will be terribly missed here on earth, I am thankful he now gets to spend forever in heaven with Helen, the love of his life! - Posted by: Carla Peters (Friend ) on: Oct 16, 2023

  • Sending love to Linda and Rick! I am sorry for your loss but I hope you feel comforted knowing your dad is in heaven with the three people he loved most. Jesus, Helen, and Johnny Cash. I will never forget the love Jake and Helen showed me over the years. I will be forever grateful for the many memories of Mexican Train at the cottage. What a wonderful marriage and love they shared. I miss them both so much already. Love always, Donna - Posted by: Donna Tuchak (Close friend ) on: Oct 16, 2023
