Peacefully on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at St. Boniface Hospital, Jim passed away after a short illness at the age of 78.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carol; brothers-in-law, Tom (Brenda) and Gary (Shauna); nephews, Jeremy (Nyomie) and Jimmy; nieces, Jessica (Simeon), Vicki and Leah; great-nephews, Bentley, Daxton, Hayes and Lachlan; great-nieces, Alaia, Aubrey, Brea and Halle; aunt Stella; cousins, Larry (Linda), Paul (Eva), Janis, Jennifer (Luis) and many friends.

Jim was predeceased by both sets of grandparents; his father Al and mother Frances; stepfather Frank; in-laws, George and Joy; cousin Bruce; aunt Corinne; and uncles, John, Ed, and Bill.

Jim was employed with the City of Winnipeg for 30 years, starting as a laborer and working his way to Foreman. Upon his retirement, he took up golf and golfed until he became ill. Jim also played hockey, baseball and curled. Jim loved all sports but his passion was hockey and he excelled at it. He ate, slept, and dreamt hockey.

Jim also loved to travel but fell in love with Acapulco. We made many trips to Acapulco and made many friends from across Canada and the United States. Jim really bonded with the Mexican people and formed many long-lasting friendships.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc., 675 McDermot Avenue, R3E 9Z9 or the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, R3T 9Z9 or any charity of your choice.

Jim I love you so much – until we meet again.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Jim introduced me to my winter escape in Acapulco. We met while on the job and he beckoned me to join him, wife Carol and friends. Many fantastic memories were made on our trips. He made friends easily despite the language factor and is remembered well by many locals in Acapulco. Rest in heavenly peace Acamigo. - Posted by: Rik Zatonski (Former fellow worker and friend ) on: Oct 22, 2023

  • Jim & Carol were neighbors for 55 years. Getting married and moving into their home on Brewster Bay. Keeping to themselves but always a friendly smile from them. The garbage cans were always neatly put away. Rest in Peace. Nancy - Posted by: Nancy Drewniak (neighbour) on: Oct 21, 2023
