Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMURIEL MAUD KINLEY
In the morning of October 14, 2023, after a heartbreaking journey with dementia, Muriel passed peacefully into the calm harbour of Heaven.
Mom was born in Winnipeg to Arthur and Ethel Maud (Harrington) Richardson, immigrants from Leicestershire, England.
She is survived by sons, Darrell (Janice) of West Hawk Lake, and Randall (Yvonne) of Winnipeg, grandchildren, Eric (Caroline), Laura (Tim), Devin (Hannah), Brianna, and Daegan, great-grandchildren, George and Arthur, brother (passed October 20) and sister-in-law Tom (Margaret) Richardson, sister-in-law Valerie Lyon, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Desmond, her parents, siblings, Kay (Harold) Smith, Margaret (Roy) Lockyer, and brother-in-law John David Lyon.
Mom grew up in the West End, graduating from Gordon Bell High School. One of the things the family enjoyed was camping at West Hawk Lake. It was there in the early 1950s that she met future husband Desmond, at Jack’s Dance Hall. Around the same time, she attended business college and became employed as a stenographer. The two lovebirds were married in 1956, and in 1958 began a family that consisted of two boys. She then switched careers, becoming a mother and "domestic engineer". Family life involved a lot of lake time at the West Hawk cottage with its assorted activities. A few trips added some variety and downhill skiing became a popular winter activity. As the boys grew more independent, Muriel returned to the workforce until she and Des both retired in 1987. They also enjoyed more travelling, including trips to the UK and skiing at Sunshine Mountain. After Dad was handicapped with a serious stroke, retirement slowed down and life at the cottage became the mainstay. They managed the odd trip together but Mom went on a number of trips alone, with her sisters and an English cousin. After almost 30 years living with the effects of the stroke, Dad passed away in 2016. A few years later, Muriel lost her independence to the ravages of dementia and for the past two and a half years required 24 hour care.
The family would like to thank the staff of Golden Links Lodge for their humane and compassionate care of Mom. Muriel was a longtime member of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church in East Kildonan until its demise a few years ago, where she made many friends and gained spiritual fulfillment. Among her many hobbies and interests, swimming, reading and sewing were top of the list.
A private family interment will be held at a later date.
If friends so desire, a donation may be made in Muriel’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or a charity of your choice.

We are so sorry to hear about your mom’s passing. We were just talking to about your mom at dinner tonight, sadly we looked up in the obits and read about your loss. It is always sad when we lose someone but it was a blessing as she is no longer in pain and can remember everything and everyone. I’m sure your dad and her are having great conversations, having a beer with George and all the other west hawkers that have passed before. It will be like back in the 60’s. Thy are having a party everyday. Sending love from the Wilson’s. - Posted by: Tannis Wilson (Friend of the family ) on: Feb 07, 2024

Our sincere condolences to the KINLEY Family on the passing of your mother. I used to live very close to the grandparents and we had a cottage at West Hawk for 70 yrs. I used to babysit Darrell and Randall while the parents went fishing. We spent many hours on the beach with your parents. and the boys. I have very fond memories of our time together. - Posted by: Walter and Margaret Martens (Friend from West Hawk Lake) on: Oct 28, 2023

I am so sad to read of your mom's passing. I really loved your mom, she was a real sweetheart. I sold her a Camry, and when she came in for service we would have great conversations. She was so proud of all of you. A beautiful angel has arrived in Heaven. - Posted by: Margaret Morton (friend) on: Oct 28, 2023
