SCOTT WILLIAM THOMPSON

In Loving Memory of Scott Thompson

On October 29, 2023, Scott left for Heaven in the company of his beloved parents.

Scotty was one of those super-talented guys who didn’t need lessons on anything, but who could somehow do everything.

He was mechanically inclined and became an invaluable asset to the family farm at just 10 years old. Scott could take anything apart and put it back together, like it was nothing - like anyone could do it. When he decided to try his hand at drumming in his early teens, it was like he was born with drumsticks in his hands.

Scott lived for fast cars and loud music. Whether he was blasting heavy metal from his ghetto or tearing it up on his dirt bike, Scott enjoyed the simple things in life. He connected with, well…anyone, and always had a ‘friend’ everywhere he went.

Scott loved nothing more than a good home-cooked meal, especially soup. No matter what you put in front of him, he was happy. He loved telling stories about the good old days, and, of course, sharing his encyclopedic knowledge of music.

He was a talented artist and musician with a great sense of humour that could turn the gloomiest of moments into a laugh. Even up to his last days, his jokes were still shocking us all.

Scott's memory lives on in his loving parents, Murray and Myrna Thompson, his sisters and brothers-in-law: Jayne Kasian, John Kasian, Crystal Thompson and Blair Reimer; his beloved Grandma Ruth, numerous aunts and uncles and his nieces and nephews - Paige Kasian, Emma Kasian-Guiterrez, Connor Guiterrez, Macy Kasian, Annikah Reimer, Nathaneal Reimer, Lucas Reimer and Thor Henrich.

We will celebrate Scott's life at Calvary Temple on Friday, November 3 at 6:30 p.m. A private family interment will precede the service.

We are deeply grateful for the care and support Scott received during his final year at Actionmarguerite. Your kindness meant the world to him and to our family.

  • Our deepest condolences to Myrna, Murray and the rest of the family. I first met Scott 3 or 4 years ago when he would visit his parents as we lived in the same building. I was initially impressed by his quick wit and later by his incredible musical knowledge. I recall one occasion when I ran into him outside of our building and he was humming a song by an artist (Ian Dury). Those of you familiar with Ian Dury and the Blockheads can guess which song! This started a dialogue over several encounters when I was "schooled" by Scott on the history of punk rock, post-punk, ska, reggae and so on. When I later learned that he grew on a farm, he became even more fascinating to me! I really regret that I did not get to know Scott better. My wife, Melanie also has fond memories of Scott and his kindness towards our dog. Guy and Melanie Gaudreau - Posted by: Guy Gaudreau (Friend of the family) on: Nov 02, 2023

  • I'm very sorry to hear Scott passed. He had a short, but very meaningful impact on me and my life. My Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Ken lived a couple miles from Murray and Myrna's place and I suppose (being the same age) he had heard I was going to spend the summer at my aunt's farm and wanted to meet me. One of my first memories was Scott asking if I wanted to go for a ride on his Honda CT 70 motorcycle. Didn't have to ask a city kid who takes busses everywhere twice. Scared the hell out of me to be honest, didn't take longer than a minute to start wheelie'ing with me on the back. Then he pulled over and asked me if I wanted to drive. Half in shock that he'd trust a stranger, I excitedly took him up on his offer. 5 second tutorial and I was on my way. I was absolutely beside myself with joy, in control of this motorcycle. Then like kids do, I remember trying to wheelie like he did, lost control and crashed. I broke the signal light and tried to make it look like it wasn't broken when I brought it back. He was too sharp and figured it out. We went on to cruise around on his bike that summer, and I remember it felt like freedom to me. I remember the loud heavy metal music, and a lot of fun. I loved it so much I saved up for my own dirt bike from a paper route-shipped it to manitoba and spent the next summer cruising around with him. Probably gave my aunt some grey hairs that summer. I've owned a motorcycle ever since and seen some amazing things on two wheels. I went on to learn to fly airplanes, and have spent my life flying people around the world. I know in my heart that little CT 70 and cruising around with Scott played a role. I'll never like Scott could though. RIP Scott, we'll ride again one day! - Posted by: Glen Gaska (Friend) on: Nov 02, 2023
