ROY BLANCHARD

July 2, 1933 - November 20, 2023

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather at Riverview Health Centre, with family at his side, on November 20, 2023 at the age of 90.
He is survived by daughter Diane MacNeil, daughter-in-law Janice Blanchard; grandchildren, Robert (Miranda) Johnson, Brittany (Ryan) McAdams, Brianna (Nathaniel) MacNeil, Jessica, Justin (Marjorie) and Kevin Blanchard; great-grandchildren, Autumn, Robbie Johnson, Carter Blanchard, Riley McAdams; step-great-grandchildren, Aubrie, Ellie Jones and Lynden McAdams; sisters, Hazel Skelton, Shirley (Elmer) Nyrose, Elain (John) Vandermeulin along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Steven and Elizabeth Blanchard, brother Elmer (Irene) Blanchard, son Edward (Janice) Blanchard and brother-in-law Albert (Hazel) Skelton.
Roy was born in Grand Prairie, Alberta on July 2, 1933. In the fall of 1933, the Blanchard family relocated to Miami, Manitoba. In the mid 1950s, he moved to Winnipeg and started working at Eaton’s in men’s clothing. He later found his permanent employment at Canada Packers, working for 40 years until retirement in 1992. During his working years, Roy married the women of his dreams Jean Blanchard on September 1, 1956. During his retirement they spent two winters in Texas, but after missing their family back home they returned their camper to Manitoba. Roy and Jean decided to spend their time looking after their grandchildren in Winnipeg, helping raise them throughout their childhood. Roy enjoyed taking care of his lawn and riding his bicycle around the neighbourhood making many friendships along the way. After giving up bicycling Roy stayed active by walking his children’s dogs almost every day.
The family would like to thank the Riverview staff on the 3rd floor.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roy’s memory to CancerCare Manitoba.
