SUSAN ADELE SEMENIUK

February 26, 1954 - November 28, 2023

Sue was raised in a loving family with three younger siblings, her parents, and maternal grandparents who joined the household when she was a teenager.

Sue attended River East Collegiate and Red River Community College. She was smart and loved crunching numbers. She worked in financial administration with special strengths in customer service, cash management, and accounting. With these skills she also helped many friends manage their personal finances. Sue was honest, reliable and a confidant to many.

Sue worked in Customer Services for Chrysler Credit Canada for 22 years until the Winnipeg branch closed. She loyally purchased Chryslers and her last car was a mean machine, a 2021 Challenger. In 1998, Sue started working for her friend Carole Aitkenhead and became an indispensable office manager at Ludwick Catering for 25 years until her passing.

Sue was witty and enjoyed bantering with people and giving her friends nicknames. She also had a number of nicknames herself: Susie, Susie-Q, Suey, Shoes, Porky, and Doo. She laughed easily, had a friendly rapport with others, and a phenomenal memory recall for faces and names.

Sue donated blood regularly and received a certificate for her contribution of 35 units in 1994. She continued donating for the next twenty years. Susan was also the closest family blood match to her brother Johnny and donated marrow for his transplant in 1984.

In 1984 Sue joined The Catholic Women's League and was an active member until her passing. She was also a vital volunteer for her church and generously provided her time and skills towards fundraising and bookkeeping.

Over the years Sue pursued a variety of interests from softball, curling, golfing, boating, snowmobiling, and travelling. She rode a motorcycle and drove many other vehicles from broken down rental jeeps in Mexico to heavy trucks, learning how to shift through the many gears. Up until the last few years she golfed with a group of women at Rossmere Country Club. Sue travelled within Canada and vacationed in Mexico and the US. Her favourite destinations were Puerto Vallarta and Las Vegas. She basked in the sun with Connie and Len in PV and attended shows and gambled with Carole and other friends in Vegas.

At a youthful age of 18, Sue flew the coop, married Terry, and moved to Narol. During their marriage Sue developed a close bond with his family which continued until her passing.

Sue and Gary Ludwick knew each other for many years and their friendship grew into a devoted relationship. She cared deeply for Gary until his passing in 2003. His children and grandson Eric Strick held a special place in Susan's heart.

Susan was predeceased by her parents John and Edith, brother Johnny, sister Kathy Stockwood, and brother-in-law Bob Stockwood. Susan is survived by her sister Connie Chappel and brother-in-law Len Paquin. She will also be lovingly remembered by Kathy's stepson Steve Stockwood and his wife Marieke, Len's nephew Tyler and his family, as well as by her cousins, friends, and the Aitkenhead, Ludwick, Luhowy and Semeniuk families.

Connie and Len thank Susan's extended family and friends for their concern and visits during her hospital stay. A heartfelt thanks to Susan Luhowy for her FaceTime visit in ICU. Special thanks to Father Josh for providing The Last Rites and to Carole Aitkenhead for staying with us and watching over Susan until her passing. We also thank the doctors, nurses, and other medical and auxiliary staff at HSC in emergency and ICU, especially nurse Natalia who compassionately attended to Susan and to us.

With broken hearts we say goodbye to Sue. With much love and affection from Connie and Len.

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • I met Susan when I was 15 as I was dating her brother. I have so many happy memories of her and her family. We would do Sunday dinners together and her mom would always make sure it was something I liked. One time I made coffee for everyone and put salt in instead of sugar. Sue was the first to notice. She didn't make fun of me or humiliate me but we all had a good laugh. I was very welcomed into the family and Sue was very helpful and patient teaching me how to play cards. In later years Sue and Connie visited and it was wonderful to see that twinkle in her eye when she was saying something funny. Sue truly was an amazing person. - Posted by: Heather Karasinski (Friend) on: Dec 19, 2023

  • I am truly saddened to hear of Sue’s passing. My deepest sympathy to her family, extended family and friends. I started golf with Sue we had a regular tee time at Kildonan golf course on Saturday mornings. We were all beginners and had so many good laughs together. Sue had a great sense of humour and I know she will be missed. Rest In Peace my dear friend. - Posted by: Vi Desrochers (Friend ) on: Dec 13, 2023

  • Susan was the accurate bookkeeper for Corpus Christi parish balancing all the accounts to the penny. The parish council and diocesan staff highly regarded Susan’s accuracy and work ethic involving parish activities for fund raising and other events needing Susan expertise. Now, her expertise is required in heaven to assist the bookkeepers along with her own one liners never knowing if it’s a joke or something else. May Susan’s memories to everyone she assisted on earth bring strength, patience and positive thinking when needed. Our condolences to Susan’s family and friends. - Posted by: Denis & Diane Levasseur (Church) on: Dec 11, 2023

  • Dear Aunty Sue, I miss you so much. This will be my first Christmas without you. You were always such a wonderful Aunty. You would come to all of our family dinners and birthday parties, as well to your great nieces and nephews birthday parties. You never missed giving any of us a birthday card and a present. You were always so kind and easy to talk to. We would always email each other back-and-forth every couple days and I am already missing that so much. You were always such a caring person. My favourite memory with you was on my 7th birthday when you picked me up and took me to the toy department at the Bay. You told me I could pick out ANYTHING I wanted. I remember feeling like I won the jackpot! Then you took me to dinner and then to see Beauty and The Beast in theatre. I remember feeling so special. You loved children. Sometimes adults have a tendency to just chat with the adults at get-togethers and you would always spend so much time with me when you could’ve been having adult conversations instead. You would pull money out of your purse and tell me to go gather random things from granny and grandpa Semeniuk’s basement and we would play store. You would teach me how to add money, set discounts on the items I was selling, and make change. I feel like you are the reason why I have always been so good at mental math. Thank you for being such a wonderful aunty, I miss you so much. Looking forward to seeing you again in Heaven. Love, Holly - Posted by: Holly Kreviazuk (Niece ) on: Dec 10, 2023

  • I remember Susan as a gentle big sister to my friend Connie on Slater Avenue during our elementary school years. Sending condolences to Connie and Len and the rest of Susan's family. - Posted by: Tyla Doyle (Van Alstyne) (neighbour) on: Dec 10, 2023

  • I had the great pleasure of knowing Sue through golf. She was always easy to be with and a kind soul. I remember her easy smile as the rest of us swore and barked at our bad golf shots. She would only ever call her errant balls "suckers" and laughed that she was again retrieving her ball from the beach or the forest. We often shared a golf cart and enjoyed listening to Beatle's tunes, reminiscing about her time and love of Gary as well as the immense joy Eric brought to her life. I'm certain many, many people are mourning her loss and I send my condolences to those family and friends closest to her. - Posted by: Lori Orford (Friend) on: Dec 09, 2023

  • Dear Sue, I am missing you so much - your humor, your laugh, your quirky expressions, even your microscopic handwriting. We will miss you at the family dinners. We will miss having ribs with you at Tony Roma’s and, of course, Connie and I will certainly miss you on our future trips to Puerto Vallarta. I still have visions of you going to the pool with your book in hand, standing there, with the warm sun bringing a smile to your face as you looked over at the glistening blue ocean waters and I sensed you were truly happy. Thank you so much for all the good times and memories. Sue, you and I often joked about you being my favorite sister-in-law, even though you were my only sister-in-law, but Sue, you were by far and will always be my most favorite sister-in-law. Forever in my heart, Len. - Posted by: Len Paquin (Brother-In-Law) on: Dec 06, 2023
