JAMES (JIM) HAMM
Following a lengthy battle with cancer, James (Jim) Donald Ralph Hamm passed away on November 11, 2023 at the age of 81 years. It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn his passing.
Jim was born in Winkler, Manitoba. He and his family moved to Winnipeg when he was in grade 12, where he met Darlene. They later married and had two children, David and Cathie. The family moved to Portage la Prairie where Jim became Vice Principal of Portage Collegiate Institute. He remained there for over 30 years. Jim and Darlene then moved to Calgary, Alberta. Jim enjoyed teaching, fishing, wood working, playing cards and having his garden and yard look just right.
He leaves behind his wife, Darlene Hamm; his children, Cathie Hamm (Joey), Dave Hamm (Laura Hamm); his grandchildren, Ryan Lawrence (Ashley), Taylor Hamm (Alex), Colton Hamm; great-grandchildren, Grayson, Aidan, Ryder, Storm. Jim also leaves behind his siblings, June Weiler (Al Weiler), Florence Wiens, Bernice Brown, and Glenys Acland; as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Jim is predeceased by his father, James Martin Hamm and mother, Elizabeth (Lucy) Hamm; his son-in-law, Chris Simpkins; his brothers-in-law, Arkie Wiens, George Brown, David Acland.
He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
There will be no service. In lieu of flowers we ask for donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

Jim was a most beloved son and brother. He was kind , helpful and loved to laugh. His garden was outstanding. Which showed a competitive side. He created beautiful and useful items out of wood. We enjoyed good discussions on topics especially politics……I miss him everyday! - Posted by: Glenys Acland (Sister) on: May 18, 2025

Hello Glenys; It has been many years since Fort Garry and Sandy Hook. I often think of the "old gang". Jim was a fine fellow...he laughed the hardest at my corny jokes. Please accept my condolences on the loss of your brother. May his memory be eternal. - Posted by: Myron Masnyk (Friend) on: Dec 02, 2023
