JUNE MACDONALD

Peacefully after a lengthy illness June Beverly MacDonald (nee Miller) passed away on December 5, 2023.

Mourning her passing is her daughter Cathy( Grant, Ty, Turner), cousins, Kim and Mike Flynn, Rick and Judy Lovelace, Glen and Shannon Lovelace, Bonnie and David Hudson, Karen Robert, and friends, Dorothy Martin, Marilyn Millar, Marilyn Baker and Joyce and Walter Oblinski. June was predeceased by her parents, William and Ivy Miller and by her husband Ray.

June started her teaching career in the 1960s and joined her husband in 1965 on an adventure of a lifetime moving to Nigeria. Upon the birth of her daughter, Cathy, June retired from teaching and focused on taking care of her parents, her passion for antiquing, and raising her daughter. June was by all accounts a unique lady. She loved to dress to the nines in a style all her own. June thrived on the thrill of finding a great antique, whether that meant a trip to a local antique store or a phone call to a castle in England. June loved to chat and never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

In compliance with June wishes, there will be no funeral service. The private interment will be held at a later date.

I would like to thank Dr. Sheila Domke, Dr. John Rabson and the wonderful doctors at CancerCare for taking excellent care of Mom for many years. I would like to thank April and her team at Prime Medical for their amazing care of Mom in her final weeks.

  • We were so sad when we heard, recently, that June has passed away. Our family met June and Ray in Nigeria in the 1960's and kept in touch ever since. June was a very kind and generous friend and she was lovely to chat to on the phone. Rest in peace, June. • June loved coming out for the drive to Lockport to visit my clothing store. We would always talk about our matching British half sovereign rings, and about all things fun and fancy. She loved the fun styles in my shop! I’m so sorry for your loss, she was a vibrant and beautiful human. X Huda Cade - Posted by: Huda Cade (Friend) on: Dec 12, 2023

  • Our condolences Cathy and Grant, so many memories but at this time of year tea and an incredible assortment of dainties. Also I do believe she is the only person ever to dress down airport security about removing her hairpins to board the aircraft, and actually get away with it ! - Posted by: Glenn and Shannon Lovelace (Cousins) on: Dec 11, 2023

  • I remember June when she first started teaching at John Taylor Collegiate in St James with my husband Gord Tovell. The school had just opened and the staff was young and enthusiastic. I have many memories of our social activities together and recall June and Ray being so friendly! I also remember being fascinated with their stories about Nigeria and when we visited their apartment it reminded me of a museum with all the artifacts they had brought home. If I recall they were called back to Canada very quickly because of the unrest in Nigeria. - Posted by: Lynne Tovell (Friend) on: Dec 11, 2023

  • When I saw the picture of June in the obituary, I had no doubt, that was the stupendous fashion lady. I was a teaching colleague of Ray’s, curled with him, and against him, and was truly appreciative of the guidance he gave to my daughter, who became a CA. June and Ray just seemed to belong together. - Posted by: Lorna Rothwell (Colleague ) on: Dec 10, 2023
