HENDRIKA BLAZINA

June 26, 1948 – December 12, 2023


Surrounded by family, Hendrika ‘Hennie’ Blazina (nee Schalkx) passed away on December 12, 2023.



Hennie is survived by her loving husband Sonny; daughter Stacy (Colin Shillinglaw); grandson Charlie; siblings Gerrie Schalkx (June) and John Schalkx (Kathy); loving cousins Ingrid Felso (Alex) and Jordan, George Hansman, George and Alexandria, nieces, nephews and many close friends.



Born in Amsterdam on June 26, 1948, Hennie immigrated to Canada with her family in 1957 first settling in Red Rock, Ontario then Thunder Bay, Ontario. She and Sonny were married in 1971 and shortly after moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Hennie worked in radiology until their daughter Stacy was born, then devoted her time to being a full-time mom.



Hennie loved gardening and tending to her houseplants, walking outdoors, baking, spending time with family and friends, her daily crossword puzzles, having a cup of tea and doing anything with her grandson Charlie.



To honor Hennie’s wishes there will be no formal service.



In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Hennie to CancerCare Manitoba.
