SHELDON AREYA ROSENSTOCK

With his family by his side, Sheldon passed away at home on December 21, 2023 at the age of 75.

Sheldon is survived by his loving wife Lynda; children, Hayley (Adam) and Mauri; grandson Levi; and brother Ted (Doris). Sheldon is also survived by his aunt Ruth; brothers-in-law, Alec (Linda) and James (Silvia); nieces and nephews, Michelle (Jacob) and son Dax, Jared (Leah) and son Oren, Noah, Ben (Erin), and Rachael (Chris); and many cousins.

Sheldon was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Lottie; in-laws, Hersh and Vi; and sister-in-law Carol.

Sheldon grew in the South End of Winnipeg surrounded by a loving extended family that included grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He attended Montrose School and Grant Park High School. Sheldon went on to attend the University of Manitoba (B.A.), University of North Dakota (M.A.), and The Ohio State University (Ph.D.). He spent his career as a Professor at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Education, Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning. For over 30 years he taught and inspired thousands of students.

Sheldon loved spending his summers at the family cottage in Gimli and winters in Palm Springs. Spending time with his family was a priority for Sheldon. He was a supportive father who was always there for his children. He cherished the time he spent with his grandson.

For over 50 years, Sheldon loved playing racquetball. If he wasn't with his family or at work, he was likely playing racquetball at the University of Manitoba or Court Sports. In later years, he played with a wonderful group of fellow racquetball players at the Palm Desert Recreation Centre.

Throughout his life, Sheldon had a positive impact on the lives of so many people, including family, friends, colleagues, and students. He made the conscientious effort to get to know others and was genuinely interested in their lives.

When he was diagnosed with leukemia over 15 years ago, Sheldon was positive, determined and courageous while fighting a disease that was relentless. Through the selfless gift of an anonymous living stem cell donor, Sheldon survived and we were blessed with many more happy years with him. We will never be able to fully express our gratitude and forever appreciation to the donor who gave him those extra years with us. On behalf of our family, we would encourage those ages 17-35 to look into joining the Canadian Blood Services Stem Cell Registry at www.blood.ca.

We extend our gratitude to the doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and staff at CancerCare Manitoba, HSC GD6, Grace Hospital, Home Care, and Palliative Care for the compassionate care Sheldon received over the years, including Dr. Schacter, Dr. Goldenberg, Dr. Beshara, and Dr. Lee.

Those wishing to make a donation may donate to a charity of choice.

Funeral services took place on December 26, 2023.
