Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE MANUEL MONIZ CORDEIRO
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Cordeiro, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, peacefully at home.
George was predeceased by his father Anibal in 1977, his mother Alda in 2011 and his brother Louie in 2022.
George was married to the love of his life, Starla Cordeiro (Carlson) for 48 years. Family was the most important aspect of his life. He is survived by his loving wife Starla, daughters, Kim Smith (Darren), Jennifer Boileau (Martin), Ashley Cordeiro (Brian) and son Christopher Cordeiro (Laura); grandchildren, Brayden, Ethan, Evangeline, Madeline, Luciana, Matteo, Ava, James, Jack, Troy and Nate; siblings, Andy (Laureen), Herb (Brenda), Zeke, Liz, Garry and sisters-in-law, Donna, Claudine; brother-in-law Wayne (Gwen) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
George was born on the Island of San Miguel Azores, Portugal and immigrated to Canada in 1960 at the age of six along with his parents and two brothers. After arriving in Canada, the family resided in a number of Northern Ontario and Eastern Manitoba communities, situated along the CNR Rail lines. In 1969, eventually settled in the community of Minaki, Ontario, on the shores of the Winnipeg River.
While growing up in Minaki, George attended Beaver Brae High School in Kenora, Ontario and later followed his father’s footsteps working for and having a successful career with the CNR.
Most importantly, Minaki was where George met and married the love of his life, Starla and together raised four wonderful children. George’s career eventually required that he move out of Minaki and after a short posting in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, the family moved and made Winnipeg, Manitoba their permanent home for the last 37 years.
George had many interests from running marathons in his younger years and going for long walks in the evening. George was also a handy man, always willing to lend a helping hand to any of his children or his friends regardless of how large or difficult the projects may be. George was a devoted family man and nothing made him happier than spending time with his grandchildren, whether it was driving them to hockey, soccer or dancing classes. He was always willing to help with a huge smile on his face.
During the past several years, the family enjoyed many weekends together at their cottage property on the Winnipeg River near Kenora. Many fond memories were made playing on the beach, quad rides, sitting around the campfire and going on fishing expeditions. Nothing gave George more pleasure than to watch his entire family enjoying a weekend at the lake. His legacy of love, dedication and laughter will continue to shape the lives of his children and grandchildren.
It was George’s wish to not have a service at this time, the family will host a Celebration of Life ceremony in the summer next year.
If you wish to make a remembrance contribution, in lieu of flowers, please consider the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation as your charity of choice in honour of George.
