CATHERINE CHRISTINA HAMELIN (CATEA) MCLEOD

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine Christina Hamelin (Catea) McLeod on November 27, 2023

Predeceased by her mother Catherine Anne (Cathy) McLeod, Catherine, is survived by her brother, William N. H. McLeod and father, William Hamelin. She is also survived by her grandparents, Reta Owens and Norman Beattie, her uncle William (BJ) McLeod, her aunt Jennifer Davis and their son Vaughn McLeod.

For the first four years of her life Catherine, her brother and mother lived with her grandparents. At age 14, following her mother's death by cancer, her grandparents were awarded guardianship and she once again lived with them until she was 21.

Catherine overcame learning challenges that affected her early schooling and also became an important caregiver for her mother during Cathy's seven-year battle with cancer. Catherine drew on these experiences to help young Indigenous girls in need of a big sister. She also aspired to enter social work and to start a business that would contribute to the safety of women.

Catherine's caring nature, intelligence, and sense of humour won her the love and appreciation of many friends during her short life. The shock and grief that they and her large extended family feel at her passing are too deep to be expressed in a short obituary.

A Celebration of Life will therefore be held in Catherine's honour on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. at Oxford Heights Community Club, 359 Dowling Avenue East, Winnipeg.
