SHARON DOROTHY MACDONALD

(PROUT)

1942 - 2024

Sharon Dorothy (Prout) MacDonald passed away peacefully on January 10, 2024, at the age of 81, at the Charleswood Nursing Home in Winnipeg, MB.

Born on October 7, 1942, in Kamsack, SK, to Marjorie and Lloyd Prout, Sharon grew up on their family farm. She attended McGillivray School, the same school her father Lloyd had also attended, and completed her education at Kamsack Collegiate. Sharon enjoyed working at Madge Lake during summers before pursuing Business College in Saskatoon. After college, she accepted a position at Feed-Rite in Calgary, where she met her future husband, John McDonald.

They married in Calgary on December 19, 1964, and remained there until relocating to Winnipeg in 1968.

In Winnipeg, Sharon balanced family life with community involvement, raising two daughters and engaging in various activities. She was musically talented, playing piano and teaching lessons, and also skilled in petit point needlework. An avid gardener, she maintained beautiful rose and vegetable gardens. Sharon contributed to the education sector, working at Riverwest School and Dieppe, and taught Sunday School at Charleswood United Church. Later, she served as an Office Manager for a Commercial Supply Company.

Diagnosed with MS in 1986, Sharon bravely battled the disease for over three decades. In 2013, she moved to Charleswood Nursing Home, where she resided until her passing.

Sharon is remembered as a compassionate and loving individual, a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She is mourned by her daughters, Lesley (Al) Flamand of Winnipeg, MB, and Lorna (Dennis) Goehring of Arizona, USA; her grandchildren, Aaron, Shaylyn, and Brandon; her sister Janice (Lorne) Boychuk of Kamsack, SK; her brother Earle (Kathy) Prout of Fort Saskatchewan, AB; and several nieces and nephews.

Sharon was predeceased by her husband, John, in 2013, and her parents, Marjorie (nee Weeks) and Lloyd Prout.

A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
