VIRGINIA (GINNI) HART

(nee WEST)

1931 - 2024

Peacefully on January 17, 2024. Predeceased by husband Tom Hart, brothers Gordon and Gary West, and her companion of latter years, Viv Rees. She is survived by children Alan (Lisa), Wendy, Gordon, and Darrell; grandchildren Jen Bernhardt (Warren), Amanda Druzyk (Jason Arnal), Crystal (Nolan Becenko), Caitlin, Megan, and Evan; great-grandchildren Logan Bernhardt and Isla Arnal and step great-granddaughter Payge Arnal; sister Vivian Cameron and brother Bill West (Bonnie Abbott).

Ginni grew up in a loving family. She joined Broadway-First Baptist Church and served both Broadway and Willowlake (St. Vital) Baptist Church faithfully in many roles.

Her immense pleasure was her family. Ginni and Tom enjoyed many camping trips with their children, and later with grandchildren. They spent winters in Desert Hot Springs. Ginni was blessed with two great-grandchildren and cherished the bond they shared.

In her mid 80s, dear friend Viv Rees became her rock and constant companion. They travelled "across the pond" where she delighted in meeting his UK family and visiting his childhood home of Swansea, Wales.

Ginni had a passion for choirs. She sang in three choirs until Covid; Broadway-First Baptist Choir, the Welsh Society Choir, and the Seniors Choral Society.

Dear to her was the P.E.O. Sisterhood, where through 52 years she made many friends. A highlight was joining Chapter A in Selkirk, MB, and being showered in love and friendship from her Selkirk P.E.O. sisters.

Ginni used her superior secretarial skills at the University of Winnipeg for many years and was proud to have been the first person there to operate a word processor!

The family thanks Dr. Stefan Riel for his caring and advice, the staff at Grace Hospice for their loving care in her final weeks, and friend Lynne Billings, generously visiting with Ginni on days when family could not.

Donations may be made to The Manitoba P.E.O. Foundation Fund (cheques payable to The Winnipeg Foundation). For full details or to donate online visit https://peo-mb-nwo.org/donate.

Please find time to join a choir and raise your voice in song in Ginni’s memory.

A Celebration of Ginni’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 9, 2024, Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd.
