CAROLE BALHARRY

On January 30, 2024, Carole Balharry, with her two daughters by her side, left this world and went into the arms of her son waiting on the other side.

Carole is predeceased by her parents, Roy and Marie Cooper and her son Bill Balharry Jr. (Michelle).

Left to cherish her memory is her husband Bill Balharry; daughters, Nancy Pundick (Dave), Lori Hoffman (John) and her adored grandchildren, Holly, Connor, Emily, Cooper and Lyla. She will be missed by many friends, cousins and cherished neighbours.

Born in Portage La Prairie in 1942 she moved to Winnipeg as a young girl and was an avid dancer, roller skater, and a cheerleader for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Married to Bill in 1962, they chose the community of Windsor Park to raise their kids.

Carole was a hard worker and never stopped working until the day she left us. Following High School, Carole began her career in finance at the Grain Exchange then subsequently worked at Contour Photocopy, Celebrations Dinner Theatre, and doing books for several Windsor Park businesses.

Dedicated to her community, she volunteered for several organizations including the PanAm Games; Past President of the Winnipeg Ringette Association; Ringette team manager who took the team to Finland and Sweden to compete internationally. She was a Canadian Cancer and PC Party of Manitoba volunteer for decades.

Carole was Winnipeg’s greatest champion. She didn't hesitate to give those a side eye who disagreed with her never ending love of her city. She was an avid sports fan and always had a game on TV. She was a quick wit, spitfire and the backbone of our family.

Carole was an exceptional wife, Mom and Grammy. She was devoted to her family. No one was prouder and loved their children and grandchildren more than she did. Her adoring and supportive ways will continue to guide us in our lives. She was the heart of our family and we can’t imagine life without her.

Thank you to the nurses and doctors at St. Boniface Hospital who fought for her. A celebration of her beautiful life will be planned in the Spring.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

  • Nancy, not sure if you remember me as we worked together at McDonalds so many years ago. I happen to notice this tonight. It’s been over 1 year since you lost your mom. I wanted to send my condolences. Bernie - Posted by: Bernie Gobeil (acquaintance) on: Jan 20, 2025

  • Dear Bill, Nancy, Lori and family. We are so sorry to hear of the loss of Carole. Although we haven’t seen each other for many years, we have great memories of our time on Newark. A lot of laughs sitting on the steps drinking coffee and sharing time with friends. Carole was always a dynamo and great to be around. One of my fondest memories is when you kids wanted her to quit smoking so she told you she would when they hit $1.00 a pack. She thought she was safe because they’d never get that high - surprise! We had some good laughs over that as the prices kept going up. It’s silly memories like these that keep someone in your thoughts and in your hearts. Thinking of you at this time and sending our love.
