RICHARD BERTRAM HANSON

April 20, 1933 - February 10, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bert Hanson on February 10th at the age of 90 years old.

Bert had a long and successful career in the Automotive Industry in Winnipeg, Manitoba and was a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club of East Kildonan. Bert had recently relocated from Winnipeg to Markham to live with his son Lance and his family who cherished every day they were able to spend together.

He will be greatly missed by his two sons, Geoff and Lance (Collette) and his grandchildren, Cole, Sydney and Beck. He is predeceased by his wife Jean (Gillespie).

A special thanks to the staff at Markham Stouffville Hospital and Sunrise Senior Living for the exceptional comfort and care they provided Bert in the final months of his life.

Those who knew Bert know that he hated being fussed over and would rather give than receive. In lieu of funeral services and to honour Bert’s character, please consider donating to the Canadian Cancer Society at www.cancer.ca

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • To the family please accept my sincere Condolences. Bert was a true gentleman. When my children were young (7,4 and 1), we spent a week in a Hawaii with Bert & Jean. Bert rented a plane. He and Jean took my oldest son with them and they flew over the Hawaii Islands. A once in a lifetime experience. Bert worked for my father-in (Midway Chrysler). My late husband Doug MacIver had great respect for Bert as a car man. Very sad to hear of his passing. - Posted by: Evelyn MacIver (Friend) on: Jun 07, 2024

  • From the fourplex on Edison to our houses on Rothesay and beyond, our parents were neighbours and best friends. Most nights on Rothesay year round there would be a tap on the wall and my parents would walk next door and end their day drinking pots of coffee over their last cigarette of the day with yours. For so many years they took turns supporting each other through thick and thin. We were sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. Our deepest sympathy to you and your family. Dan and Laura. - Posted by: Danny and Laura McFadyen (Friend) on: Mar 04, 2024

  • Sorry to hear of Bert’s passing. Met him when I was a constable walking beat by Dominion Motors, and became golf/coffee buds. Also bought my first new car from Bert, 1980 LTD. We went for dinner few times with Jean and him. Condolences to family………..Jim/Yvonne Raftis, Wpg - Posted by: Jim Raftis (Friend) on: Feb 18, 2024
