Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAWRENCE BERNARD MAHONEY
Peacefully at the age of 93 years Larry passed away at Meadowood Manor in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He is survived by his loving wife Anne, and his son Tim (Colleen).
Larry was born in Oshawa, Ontario. He fought in the Korean War and moved to Winnipeg in the late 1950s where he worked as a barber until he retired at 55. He was introduced to Anne Soos by a mutual friend, and they have been together ever since. They married in 1960 and their son Tim was born in 1961. Larry and Anne celebrated 63 years of marriage this past June.
They lived for many years in East Kildonan where Larry had his barbershop on the corner of Jamieson and Brazier. He cut hair and sharpened hockey skates for his customers. Larry loved watching sports and was a constant presence at Tim’s early morning hockey practices. He was always there to cheer Tim on during his games. Larry loved to drive, and the family spent many summers travelling by car throughout Canada and the United States.
After Larry retired in 1985, he and Anne moved to a condominium in St. Norbert and continued to travel. Favourite spots were Las Vegas, Florida, and California where they would always catch a baseball game. In 1996 they travelled to the Dominican Republic with family to celebrate Tim’s marriage to Colleen.
Larry will be remembered for his love of road trips, sports and animals, and spending time with friends and family while enjoying a meal together.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Meadowood Manor. Their kind and compassionate care of Larry will always be remembered.
A Catholic mass will be held at Meadowood Manor at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Meadowood Manor, 577 St. Anne’s Road, followed by refreshments and fellowship. Parking is available in the lot of the St. Vital hockey rink which is across the street from Meadowood Manor. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Larry’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
