It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ingeborg Barthel on February 12, 2024, at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 93.
Inge was predeceased by her husband, Hans in 2009, her sons, Paul in 1960, and Hans Jr. in 2008; her mother and father, Paula and John Vandermeer; sister Ilse Vandermeer; grandparents, Lina and Kurt Kluge; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Paul and Gertrude Barthel; and her brother-in-law Wolf Dieter Barthel.
Inge will be forever remembered and deeply missed by her daughter-in-law Paulette; grandsons, Reece (Correna), and Conrad (Eryn); great-grandchildren, Amelya and Liam; sister-in-law Sigrid; nieces, Ursula and Christiana (Brian); nephews, Ingo (Catherine), Knut (Andrea) and Roland; great-nieces, Madeleine, Elena, Athina and Anna; great-nephews, Nicolaus and Max; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Inge was born in Dortmund-Mengede, Germany to Paula Kluge, and was lovingly raised by her grandparents, Lina and Kurt Kluge. Inge met Hans in Germany, and together they moved to Canada in 1951 to begin their life together. They were married in Bissett on Christmas day 1951, welcoming sons Hans Jr. in 1952, and Paul in 1954. They moved to Winnipeg in 1964, and Inge worked full time at Eaton’s as a seamstress until her retirement.
Oma was lovingly devoted to her family, and cherished spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members. She welcomed everyone into her home with a smile, and always had sweet treats for her great-grandchildren and grand-pups. She meticulously tended to her flower and vegetable gardens, enjoyed sewing and knitting, baking, and had special memories of her travels around the world.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
