JOYCE LORETTA NELSON

(nee SIPLEY)

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Joyce Nelson of Winnipeg with her daughter by her side, on Monday, February 5, 2024, at age 90.

Beloved wife of the late George Nelson; devoted mother to daughter Lori of Winnipeg; son James of Penticton; loving Amma to Murray (Krystin); great-Amma to Charlotte; lovingly remembered by brother Melvin Sipley of Selkirk; nephew Paul Sipley (Monika) of Calgary; niece Sydney Lennie (Bruce) of Ottawa; three great-nieces and a great-nephew.

Predeceased by her loving husband George of Winnipeg; brother and sister-in-law, James and June Sipley of Ottawa; sister-in-law Joan Sipley of Lac du Bonnet; niece Brenda Sipley.

Joyce was born in Winnipeg on June 30, 1933, to Florence and Samuel Sipley. She graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate in Winnipeg and soon after met the love of her life, George Nelson, at a community dance.

After marriage, George and Joyce built a new home in Westwood where they raised their family and made many lifelong friends. They had 47 wonderful years together until George’s passing in 2002. Over the years Joyce was involved in many activities with both young and old. She spent several years volunteering at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's Things Shop; active member with Toastmistress group; member at Breezy Bend Country Club; enjoyed many years playing bridge with the girls; loved gardening and everything flowers. Joyce enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in Ponemah and at her brother's Caddy Lake cottage.

Joyce will be remembered by all who knew her as a kind and gentle soul who always looked for the best in everyone.

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In memory of Joyce, donations may be made to Fort Whyte Alive, or a charity of your choice.
