CATHERINE (KITTY) JONASSON

(nee SIMMONS)

1931 - 2024

On Valentine’s Day, Kitty was called home by the love of her life, Ernie.

She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Ernie, her parents Helen and Michael Simmons, twin brother Gordon and great-grandson Levi.

She is survived by daughter Donna (Ken) Jacques, grandchildren Tom (Robyn), Bruce (Angele) and Shelby (Keenan) and great-grandson Finnegan.

Kitty was born in Winnipeg and spent her childhood in the north end, attending Lord Nelson School. She later moved to Simcoe Street when her parents bought their first house.

She married Ernie in 1960 in a ceremony at First Lutheran Church.

In 1963, they purchased their first and forever home on Ridley Street in the Crestview area of St. James.

She loved to travel with Ernie. From Florida to California, B.C. to P.E.I. and anywhere in between as long as it didn't involve flying.

She hated cooking but her cabbage rolls, macaroni and cheese and Christmas Eve feasts were legendary. They were usually preceded and/or followed with a beer.

Her greatest passion was her family. She was always there when I needed her and was very generous with her hugs. Oh, how I could use one now.

She spent many years caring for her mother and visiting on a daily basis at Holy Family nursing home.

By far her grandchildren were her favorite. She was always ready to play and laugh and shared her love for travel with family trips to Grand Forks, Alberta, and of course the cabin.

A private Celebration of Life will be held for Kitty.

Many thanks to the staff of Meadowood Manor. Thank you for the years of great care and for treating Mom like a member of your own family.
