After a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer, it is with deep regret we announce the death of Audrey Darlene Whitman on February 13, 2024, at the Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg MB, at the age of 81. Having been visited by numerous family and friends, and with family by her side, mom knew she was surrounded by love, and it was okay to be tired of the fight.
Born November 14, 1942, in Emo (Rainy River District, ON), to Cecil and Mildred (Cutherbertson) Kellar to a family with nine siblings and grew up in the area of Devlin, ON.
She married Edgar Wayne Strachan in August 1961 who passed tragically in August 1967 leaving her the single parent of two young children, Judith Wynne and Cecil Neil.
She began a career at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and relocated to Winnipeg, MB to pursue additional career opportunities eventually retiring as a Small Business Loans Manager. She met and married James Pearl Whitman on June 26, 1976, adding three children, James Craig, Janine Louise, and Timothy Randall, to her family.
Mom worked hard to create and maintain her home and family and enjoyed sewing, baking and most especially her garden. She loved her pets and had several cats and dogs for company throughout her life.
Mom is survived by children, Craig (Carol), Judy, Neil (Candace), Janine, Tim (Homin); grandchildren, Brandy (Ian), Natasha (Darian), Evan and Alex; great-grandchildren, Kira, Dominic, Brody and Myles; sisters, Helen, Betty (Glen), Dorthy; in-laws, Yvonne, Jean, Karen, Carol, Jim (Joyce) and Judy. She was predeceased by husbands, James Pearl Whitman and Edgar Wayne Strachan; parents, Cecil and Mildred Kellar; stepmother, Lilian Kellar; brothers, Earl, Ken, Jim, Harold, George and sister Irene (Alan); sisters-in-law, Dixie, Fran and Hazel; brothers-in-law, Milton, Darrell and Ray.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to Trinity United Church, where she had been an active member, or to a charity of their choice.
We are grateful to the kind, caring staff of East 3 wing of Riverview Health Centre for their dedicated assistance during Audrey's journey.

My wife and I were very saddened to hear of Audrey’s sickness then passing. We will always remember her happily gardening or telling poor Daisy to be quiet in the back yard as Daisy loved barking at us. She always had a smile and we always had a nice little chat. We certainly will miss her. Ron and Leigh. - Posted by: Ron and Leigh Holland (Neighbour) on: Feb 26, 2024

I was very sorry, sad and devastated to hear of the cancer diagnosis back in the Fall and now again, I'm very sad, sorry and devastated to hear of Audrey's passing. She was loved by all her family. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends and everyone that knew her. I know that during the family's time of grief, that everyone will be there for each other. Please take care everyone during this very difficult time. - Posted by: Caryl McKay ((former family member)) on: Feb 24, 2024
