JOSEPH (DAWSON) RISBEY

April 24, 1936 - February 18, 2024

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dawson Risbey on February 18, 2024.

He is survived by his wife Bertha of 67 years, daughter Candace (Lorne Stanley), son Jim (Shelly) Risbey, grandchildren, Kevin (Megan) Stanley, Jason Stanley (Janine Kropla), Kacie (Scott) Ridden, Deanna Risbey (Kieran Bradshaw) and great-grandchildren, Hunter, Blake, Ryder, Lennon, Lucy, Oliver, Hayden, and Xavier.

Predeceased by his infant son, parents, Thomas and Hilda, his brothers, Leslie, Ted, Fred, Kenny, and sisters, Edna and Evelyn. Survived by brothers, Dave, Cliff, Arnold, Richard and sister Rhoda.

Dawson was born in Winnipeg and raised in the St. Charles area where he continued to reside. Hockey was a favourite activity in his early years and watching Hockey Night in Canada. He followed in his brother's footsteps and joined Chapel Lawn Cemetery as a groundskeeper where he worked for 49 years. He always enjoyed helping family and friends with building projects and especially at the Johnson farms in Chatfield and East Selkirk.

There were many family road trips and camping memories. In retirement, he continued pouring concrete and creating decorative flag stones. He was always interested in the activities of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Thank you to the medical team at Victoria General Hospital for their care and compassion.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Dear Dawson, rest in peace my dearest friend. You were like a father to me after my dad passed away. I always remember our time going either to A&W, Burger King or McDs for coffee and a chat, was nice getting out with you. My Hannelore loved meeting you also. We both loved you Dawson, and I wish we had been able to visit you one last time before you passed away. You may be gone but you are always remembered with love ❤️. My condolences to Bertha and the rest of your family, you will be missed, but never forgotten, by many. - Posted by: len peltier (Friend) on: Nov 19, 2024

  • Sending my condolences to the family and friends of Dawson. He was our next door neighbour for 10 years until we moved in 2018. He was the kindest and most generous neighbor anyone could ever ask for. He would help us out immensely with yard work or help my brother build things. Him and Bertha would always give my little brother and I treats growing up. He was always so interested in how I was doing in school and what I was wanting to pursue when I went to university. He treated my mom, dad, brother and I as if we were family. We loved him very much and he will be missed dearly. Rest easy Dawson ❤️ - The Moore’s. - Posted by: Chandelle Marynuk-Moore (Neighbor) on: Mar 16, 2024

  • I’m so very sorry to the family for the loss of Dawson. He was an amazingly kind man! He was my papa’s best friend (Arnold Peltier). When I was young I was at my papa’s just about every single day, and Dawson would always stop by and I absolutely remember him being the kindest soul. I ran into him at a gas station maybe about 7-8 years back and we both recognized each other, and it was so nice running into someone that my papa loved dearly. Rest in peace Dawson 🙏 - Posted by: Kristin Peltier (Grandpa’s Friend) on: Feb 24, 2024
