Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryADRIANO (ADRIAN) VALENTIN
With profound sorrow, the family announces the death of Adriano (Adrian) Valentin on March 5, at home.
He is survived by the love of his life Jane Dick and by beloved family and friends across Canada and around the world, including brother-in-law Bob, sister-in-law Lynda, nieces, Michal-Joan (Mark), Kathryn, Pamela (Brian), and great-niece Audrey.
Born Adrian Weiss in Bucharest, his family lived as refugees in Israel after the war, then settled in Milan, Italy where he did all his schooling and compulsory military service. He came to Canada as an adult, doing graduate studies in agriculture at the University of Manitoba, then holding various jobs including for the federal government, Versatile, and finally as a teacher of science in French Immersion at Kelvin High School.
He was a scuba diver, a glider pilot, and a black belt in jiu-jitsu, among many physical accomplishments. He was multilingual. He never hesitated to help family, friends and neighbours with computer problems. He loved to tinker. He loved animals, especially cats, otters, birds, rabbits, and was a squirrel whisperer, with a T-shirt to prove it.
He had endless curiosity and profound reverence for the majesty and wonder of every aspect of the natural world. He was passionate about caring for this planet and every living thing on it.
The family extends its deepest gratitude for the compassionate care and support of Dr. S. Robillard, and the wonderful CancerCare and Palliative Care teams, as well as to friends near and far who upheld Adriano and us with their love.
Private interment (green burial) has taken place with arrangements by Hunter Funerals. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, with more information to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Adriano's memory can be made to Friends of the Earth Canada, Canadian Wildlife Federation, or other environmental organizations, or towards cancer research.

Dear Jane, Bulent and I have so many fond memories of timeless sepia tinted evenings with you and Adriano. He was the incarnation of cultivated erudition, passionate about the world and the future. The conversation was always scintillating, punctuated by happy laughter. Adriano was an accomplished cook so dinner with you was always one of culinary discovery. We will miss him. We are thinking of you in this time of bitter loss. May you find some measure of solace in knowing how many lives he touched. - Posted by: Alexis and Bulent Yildir (Friends) on: Mar 13, 2024

Muriel - Posted by: Muriel MITERAN (Friend) on: Mar 11, 2024

Jane, I am so, so very sad for the loss of Adriano. Such a gorgeous, curious, thoughtful, considerate and generous man. Words are not enough but as you are grieving, know that he loved you to bits. He would not have left you if he could have stayed longer and death is always a shock, but cancer takes no prisoners. My heart is breaking for you. He made friends around the world and influenced others in so many ways. RIP Adriano. You are missed. - Posted by: Nancy Batenburg (Friend) on: Mar 10, 2024

Rick and I were friends of Jane and Adriano for a long time. Jane was my classmate and good friend at the University of Winnipeg, and we were fortunate to get to know Adriano each time we visited Winnipeg over the years. We always managed to find time from our other activities to enjoy a meal with them. He was a fine man, a great host, and we are honoured to have known him. Deepest condolences to Jane and the family. M. Valentin was one of my all-time favorite teachers. He had infinite patience for my silly antics and really helped cultivate my interest in learning. All of the Kelvin alumni will miss you dearly! - Posted by: Kevin McIntyre (Student ) on: Mar 09, 2024
