Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELSIE MAE CHUDYK
With heavy hearts and cherished memories, the family of Elsie Mae Chudyk (née Korbutiak) mourns the loss of their beloved matriarch. Elsie, predeceased by her husband Tony, son Derek, brothers, Walter and Benny, and parents, Bill and Mary Korbutiak, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home.
Born in Ontario, Elsie was raised on the family homestead and farm in Fisher Branch, Manitoba. Alongside her siblings, Walter, Evelyn, Benny, and Marcia, she blossomed on the farm - acquiring skills she carried throughout her life and creating cherished memories with her siblings.
In her teenage years, she met Tony at a baseball game in Chatfield, who made the journey from Zbaraz to Fisher Branch via horse and buggy to court her. They married in 1954, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love and entrepreneurial spirit for over 65 years.
Together, they welcomed two sons: Derek and Brad. Elsie prioritized her role as a mother, ensuring her sons were well cared for, loved, and well-fed with her famous home-cooked meals. Together, Elsie and Tony built businesses in Fisher Branch, including Chudyk's Clothes and Shoes, a pool hall, and a barber shop - all while managing their farm. She also took on roles in the community over the years as a school librarian at Fisher Branch Collegiate and as a guard at the Fisher Branch RCMP detachment.
Elsie lovingly embraced her role as Baba to her three grandchildren: Natasha (Matt), Nikki (Brandon), and Clint. She was also a Great-Baba to Natasha's four children: Bennett, Naomie, Gemma, and Noelle. Her heart eagerly awaited the arrival of her fifth great-grandchild in the coming months from her granddaughter, Nikki. Elsie's grandchildren hold many precious memories of time spent with her.
Her life took her for travels across Canada, the United States, Europe, and to tropical locales. Yet, amidst her travels, her heart remained anchored to Fisher Branch, where she was a beloved member of the community, known for her keen sense of humour, valued friendship, and kindness. To many, Elsie was more than just a mother, sister, Baba, Aunt, or cousin; she was a true friend whose presence radiated joy and comfort. The Chudyk family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the town of Fisher Branch for honouring Elsie's memory as a dedicated citizen by flying the flag at half-mast upon news of her passing - a testament to her lasting impact on the community.
She is survived by her son Brad (Dana), daughter-in-law Candy, her sisters, Evelyn and Marcia, sister-in-law Myrna, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and many longtime friends, including Bill and Irene Uruski and Pam Mamchuk.
Elsie's legacy of love, generosity, family, and friendship will forever remain etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
At Elsie's request, there will not be a formal service.

My parents Larry (Hilarie) and Elsie Meilleur were close dear friends of the Chudyk family. Once we sold the farm in the 70’s our regular visits to Fisher Branch we always stayed with the Chudyks. Tony gave my first haircut in 1966. Bradley was like my older brother and Tony and Elsie were like second parents. I hadn’t seen them since my dad’s funeral 11 years ago. But I had the privilege of seeing Auntie Elsie last fall. Her smile was infectious, her humour contagious. When Bradley phoned to inform me of her passing it was like loosing a parent all over again. My mom Elsie is still alive and was deeply saddened as well. All of my best memories as a child are in Fisher Branch. She was definitely one of the last of a generation. My most deepest sympathies to the family. - Posted by: Kevin Meilleur (Adopted nephew) on: Apr 09, 2024

Elsie, I didn’t see her or Tony as much as I would have liked, but every time I did see them it was a lot of fun. She always had a smile on her face and funny witty remarks. Elsie lived a good life and was very well loved. Rest in peace my dear cousin. Love, Audrey ♥ - Posted by: Audrey Gibson (Cousin) on: Mar 31, 2024

Mrs. Chudyk, was indeed a kind and generous woman in our little town. My parents spoke glowingly about the Chudyk's and it is sad to see another of our great long time residents pass away. Shopping at Chudyk's for our clothes for school is a great set of memories and Elsie was always there to help. My condolences to the Chudyk family, and I am sure I speak for the entire Klus family as I offer them. - Posted by: Darrell Klus (former resident of Fisher Branch) on: Mar 30, 2024
