LORNE WILBUR RONALD

April 21, 1931 - April 6, 2024

Two weeks shy of his 93rd birthday, Lorne passed away peacefully in hospital after a short illness.

Lorne's memory will be cherished by his daughters, Dianne (David) and Jo-ann; his son-in-law John; his grandchildren, Kristen (Kent), Nicole (Kris), Jessica, Alexander (Jazzmin), Samantha (Matt); great-grandchildren, Mason and Scarlett; his brother Murray (Florence); and many family and friends.

Born in Winnipeg weighing just over two pounds, Lorne defied all odds to go on to live a life full of love, excitement, fun and shenanigans.

During his formative years, Lorne grew up on a farm in the Anola area with his parents, Elsie and Wilbur, and brothers, Ron (Earl) and Murray. The farm would instill a passionate work ethic, great strength and a love of animals.

Venturing into Winnipeg as a young man, Lorne’s early employment included working in the Hudson’s Bay candy department and wrapping china at Eaton’s. He would go on to become a lineman, constructing and patrolling power lines in many locations across Canada.

It was during this time that he met and fell in love with Gladys Nelson Lundquist. They married on May 14, 1954. For most of their married life they lived in Transcona, where they raised their family and built a close circle of friends.

Lorne went on to further his education and become an electrician. He joined the City of Winnipeg and enjoyed a 43 year career. He had many fond memories, friends and stories from these days.

When Gladys battled a long illness, Lorne was her constant caregiver, making sure she felt comfortable and loved. Gladys passed away far too soon, but he always kept her close in his heart.

Among the greatest joys of Lorne’s life were becoming a father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was known for encouraging practical life skills such as gardening, changing the oil in cars, and tips for winning at cribbage, to name a few.

Lorne will be remembered for his caring gestures, sense of humour, easy connection with people, heart of gold, and incredible life stories.

Thank you to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital and Seven Oaks General Hospital for their compassionate care.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Transcona Cemetery.

A come and go reception to follow at Transcona Place, 110 Victoria Avenue West from 12:00 noon - 2:00 p.m.
