Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIA (MARY) STEINMASSL
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary on April 26, 2024, at the age of 98.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Fritz (2000) and her son-in-law Stefan (2020). Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Linda (Chris) and Nancy. She will also be lovingly remembered by her grandson Leif and granddaughter Erica (Jason), great-grandchildren, Ella, Oliver, Phillip and Wyatt, all of whom meant so much to her. As well she will be warmly remembered by extended family in Austria.
Mary and Fritz were both born in Austria and married in 1949, then immigrated to Canada in 1951. Upon landing at Pier 21 they made their way to Winnipeg. They worked hard to build a wonderful life for their family. Linda and Nancy grew up surrounded by love and the values of hard work and honesty.
Memories to be cherished are summers at the cabin at St. Laurent, delicious Austrian specialties such as knoedel, gugelhupf and Mary's famous Wiener Schnitzel. Mary was an avid gardener as evidenced by her amazing tomatoes and petunias.
In 1983, Mary and Fritz retired to Kelowna, BC where many happy years were spent enjoying life together and hosting family gatherings. Upon Fritz's passing in 2000, Mary remained in Kelowna until returning to Winnipeg in 2014. She resided happily at Dakota House among friends and caring staff until her passing.
Special thanks are extended to the wonderful staff at Health Sciences Centre H5 for the compassionate care Mary received.
Friends of Mary are invited to a ‘Come and Go' in her honour at Dakota House on April 20 at 1:30 p.m.
