Thomas was born April 12, 1949 in Lestock, Saskatchewan. He was called home April 3, 2024 following a brief illness at the age of 74.
Thomas worked on the farm near Kelliher, SK and attended Lebret residential school for two years. When he was 16 years old, he moved to Winnipeg and worked at many jobs. He retired when he was 65, following a 25 year career as a welder.
Thomas enjoyed attending powwows throughout Canada, developing many friendships along the way. Thomas was a very gentle and soft-spoken man who loved life and most importantly loved and cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thomas’ gentle spirit and faith was evidenced through his words and by his actions. While he was still able to drive, Thomas would head out in the evenings to check on people in the city who needed food or shelter, always offering his help. He was also a familiar face at the “Oak Table” offering words of encouragement to those he visited. Thomas was a man of great faith and liked to share that he had attended Mass for 40 years. The day before his final journey home to his Creator, he was asked if he was bored in hospital, to which he gently smiled and replied “I’m not bored I just pray”.
Thomas will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves to mourn his brother John Kaye, sister Marion Dickson, sons, Alvin Morris (Wendy) and Chris Herman, daughter Sylvia Littletent-Kequahtooway (Jason), special niece Tina Dickson, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and his special friends, Spencer Peepeetch, Father Stan Fontaine, and Margo Lavoie.
Traditional Wake (April 11) and Funeral Service (April 12) were held at the Zagime Community Complex, Zagime, SK. Memorial Service (April 11) was held at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Aboriginal Catholic Parish, Winnipeg, MB.
