Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUG (WILLIAM DOUGLAS) BROWN
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Doug on April 26, 2024, with his family at his side.
Doug will be forever missed and loved by his wife Brigitte Fontaine, his stepdaughters, Zoe Biggs and Isabel (Hyalmar) Biggs, his sister Wanda and her husband Warren Rainka, and his cousin Kyle (Lorraine) Smith.
Also remembering Doug with love will be aunts, Mabel Taylor, Ruth Smith, Sue Beatty, cousins, Nicole Taylor, Lesley Taylor, Craig Smith, and Mark Brown, all of Brigitte’s family, and many close friends.
Doug was predeceased by his parents, Ed and Lorraine Brown, his grandparents, George and Mabel Brown and Les and Sadie Smith, uncles, George Smith, Roy Brown and Ron Brown, Don Taylor, and by Brigitte’s parents, Olive and Maurice Fontaine.
Doug was born March 15, 1970, in Neepawa, MB and lived in Plumas with his family while he attended school at Plumas Elementary and William Morton Collegiate in Gladstone. Doug was raised with love and the values of hard work, determination, and fairness. Working with his family in their business and on the farm showed Doug the rewards these qualities could have.
As a young adult, Doug faced a life changing challenge. With the support of his family and with his own never-ending strength, he adapted to his new world. He moved to Winnipeg and made a new life for himself. Doug’s optimistic personality, his warmth, and his compassion made him many lifelong friends. This new life included meeting, marrying, and building a life with his true love Brigitte. They were looking forward to many more years together at the time of Doug’s passing.
Doug loved hunting, fishing, boating, and camping. He always preferred to be outdoors whatever the season. He was introduced to hunting and fishing by his Grandpa Brown and Uncle Roy and developed many friendships over the years with these passions. Doug was an accomplished marksman and participated on the National Pistol team for many years. He also found a freedom on the water and enjoyed as much time as he could on his pontoon boat. Doug spent many summers at the Royal Manitoba Yacht Club where he was always up for a visit and a beverage. He enjoyed having family and friends for a BBQ and a cruise on the river or just a visit at the docks. Doug also treasured the time he could spend at his childhood home in Plumas with his family and friends.
We will all have our own memories to cherish of these special times with Doug.
Doug was rewarded with the return of all the love and caring he gave in his life when he was faced with his cancer diagnosis. He was shown the support of his family and friends while in the hospital and at home. We are forever grateful for the staff at St. Boniface and Concordia Hospitals and CancerCare Manitoba for their care during this time.
Cremation has taken place. We invite you to join us in a CELEBRATION OF HIS LIFE at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Boulevard. Friends are invited to come in casual dress to share their memories of Doug with the family and friends.
Anyone wishing to participate by speaking or sending a message is welcome to share their stories that day.
Memorial donations may be made in Doug’s memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care, or a charity of one’s choice.
